What Is OppLoans?

OppLoans is an online installment-loan platform operated by Opportunity Financial, LLC, part of OppFi. OppFi’s 2025 annual report describes OppLoans as its primary product and says loans facilitated through the platform were originated by bank partners including FinWise Bank, First Electronic Bank and Capital Community Bank.

The official OppLoans website says consumer products offered through the platform generally range from $500 to $5,000. Eligibility and pricing vary by state and borrower circumstances. Applicants generally must be at least 18, have a bank account, live in a state where the platform operates, have a regular source of income and receive income through direct deposit.

OppLoans Reviews and Complaints

Public feedback is substantial enough to identify recurring topics, but ratings should be interpreted carefully because individual experiences vary by loan amount, APR, repayment schedule, payment history and state.

Source What it shows Important context
Trustpilot Thousands of reviews, with a strong overall rating and both positive and negative recent feedback. Positive reviews often mention fast applications and funding. Negative reviews include complaints about interest, payment-plan information and customer service.
Better Business Bureau reviews A mixed customer-review profile with both favorable and unfavorable experiences. Recent negative reviews include repayment-cost and payment-processing concerns; positive reviews often mention ease and speed.
BBB complaints Hundreds of complaints in the BBB’s three-year reporting window. Complaint narratives include billing, account servicing, communications, application and payment disputes. BBB complaint counts should be considered alongside the company’s transaction volume.

Common OppLoans Complaint Themes

High APRs and Total Repayment Cost

Borrowing cost is one of the clearest concerns. OppLoans publishes state-specific rates and terms rather than one nationwide APR. For example, its Florida page currently states that bank-partner personal loans offered through the platform can carry APRs from 129% to 195%. Terms differ by state, so borrowers should rely on the disclosures for their own offer rather than a national example.

Recent BBB complaints include borrowers describing difficulty reducing balances and frustration over how much interest continued to accrue. OppFi responses on BBB often point back to the signed loan agreement, disclosed APR and payment history. A complaint does not by itself establish that a charge was improper, but it can identify issues worth checking before signing.

Before accepting a loan: Review the APR, finance charge, total of payments, payment frequency, maturity date and whether interest accrues daily. Compare the full repayment amount rather than focusing only on the amount deposited.

Payments, Payoff Balances and Daily Interest

Some complaint narratives describe confusion after making large payments or trying to pay a loan off early. OppLoans describes its products as simple-interest loans, and company responses on BBB state in some cases that interest accrues daily. That means a payoff quote can change over time if payment timing changes or scheduled payments are missed.

If requesting a payoff, ask for a dated payoff amount and written instructions. After payment, confirm that the account balance actually reaches zero and retain the confirmation.

Customer Service and Account Information

Recent negative reviews and complaints also describe disputes over customer-service responses, payment-plan information, website access and difficulty getting account questions resolved. Other customers report fast, professional service. These conflicting reports are consistent with a mixed service picture rather than a single uniform experience.

Credit Reporting and Collections

Some complaints concern how accounts were reported or handled after missed payments. OppFi has stated in BBB responses that it does not alter information it believes was accurately reported simply as a goodwill adjustment. Borrowers disputing credit information should compare their loan agreement, payment history and credit report carefully and use the lender’s dispute process when they believe information is inaccurate.

OppLoans Rates, Terms and Availability

OppLoans does not publish one universal APR or term for every borrower. Its Rates and Terms page directs consumers to state-specific information. OppFi’s annual report says its bank-partner model provided access in 40 states as of December 31, 2025.

Because pricing can vary significantly, save a copy of the actual Truth in Lending disclosure before accepting. That document should state the APR, finance charge, amount financed, total of payments and payment schedule for the specific loan.

Who Owns OppLoans?

OppLoans is operated by Opportunity Financial, LLC, commonly referred to as OppFi. OppFi Inc. is a publicly traded company, and its SEC filings describe Opportunity Financial, LLC as the operating entity holding substantially all of the company’s business assets and operations.

OppFi says it uses a bank-partner model for OppLoans. Its 2025 annual report identifies FinWise Bank, First Electronic Bank and Capital Community Bank as primary bank partners. The bank shown on an individual loan agreement may matter for servicing, disclosures and legal rights, so borrowers should keep the original agreement.

Regulatory and Legal Context

High-cost installment lending through bank partnerships has been the subject of regulatory and legal disputes. In 2026, a California state court granted summary judgment in favor of Opportunity Financial in litigation involving the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation and the state’s interest-rate cap theory. That ruling concerned specific legal questions in California and should not be read as a general finding that every OppLoans loan or customer dispute is lawful or unlawful.

Consumers should distinguish between documented court or regulator actions and individual review allegations. A customer complaint may describe a genuine dispute without proving a legal violation.
