Overview
McDonald’s reviews and complaints cover a wide range of experiences, including food quality, incorrect or missing items, drive-thru service, mobile orders, delivery, refunds, prices, MyMcDonald’s Rewards and customer service. Because most McDonald’s restaurants are operated by independent franchisees, the best place to resolve a problem can depend on where and how the order was placed.

McDonald’s Customer Reviews and Complaints
McDonald’s customer experiences can vary significantly by restaurant. A complaint involving one location should not automatically be treated as evidence about every McDonald’s restaurant, particularly because many restaurants are independently owned and operated by franchisees.
Independent review platforms contain both positive and negative experiences. Positive reviews commonly mention convenience, familiar menu items, fast drive-thru service, clean restaurants and helpful employees. Negative reviews frequently concern missing or incorrect food, cold items, slow service, unhelpful responses and difficulties getting a problem corrected.
Most Common McDonald’s Complaints
Incorrect or Missing Items
One of the most common restaurant complaints involves receiving the wrong sandwich, missing fries, sauces or drinks, or a customized order that was not prepared as requested. For pickup orders, customers can reduce the chance of a difficult dispute by checking the bag before leaving the restaurant when practical.
For Mobile Order & Pay purchases that are missing food, McDonald’s directs customers to contact the restaurant that provided the order.
Cold Food or Food-Quality Concerns
Customer reviews sometimes describe fries, sandwiches or other items arriving cold, stale or poorly assembled. Food-quality complaints are usually location-specific. If the problem is noticed immediately, bringing the receipt and food back to the restaurant may make it easier for local management to replace the item or determine whether a refund is appropriate.
Long Drive-Thru and Pickup Waits
Wait times can vary by restaurant, time of day, staffing and order volume. Complaints may involve long drive-thru lines, mobile orders that are not ready at arrival, or delays after a customer has checked in for curbside or table service.
Customer-Service Complaints
Some complaints involve difficulty getting a manager to address an order problem, inconsistent responses from employees, or being referred between a restaurant, McDonald’s Customer Care and a delivery provider. Keeping the receipt, restaurant number, order number, date, time and screenshots from the app can make escalation easier.
McDonald’s App Reviews and Complaints
The McDonald’s app supports Mobile Order & Pay, deals, MyMcDonald’s Rewards and delivery in participating areas. App-related complaints can involve login problems, payment issues, a selected restaurant being incorrect, missing rewards points, deals that do not apply as expected, or orders that cannot be changed after payment.
McDonald’s states that a Mobile Order & Pay order cannot be changed after payment is submitted. A customer can cancel from the order details only while the order has not started being prepared. Once preparation begins, cancellation is no longer available through the normal app flow.
Before paying, confirm the selected restaurant, pickup method, items, customizations and total. McDonald’s says it cannot transfer a completed mobile order to a different restaurant.
McDonald’s Refunds and Canceled Orders
For a non-delivery Mobile Order & Pay problem or refund request, McDonald’s directs the customer to return to or contact the restaurant where the purchase was made. If payment has already been processed and the order cannot be picked up, the restaurant is also the primary contact for refund assistance.
Refund handling can therefore vary by the circumstances and by the restaurant involved. Save the receipt or digital order confirmation and ask for written confirmation if a refund is approved. Card-processing times can also vary after a refund is issued.
McDelivery Complaints: Missing Food, Late Delivery and Refunds
McDonald’s uses delivery partners for McDelivery. The company instructs customers with a missing, incorrect or undelivered app-delivery order to check the vendor shown on the receipt and contact that delivery provider. McDonald’s currently lists Uber Eats at 1-866-987-3744 and DoorDash at 1-833-510-0332 for delivery-order issues.
Orders placed directly through third-party apps such as Uber Eats, DoorDash, Grubhub or Postmates should generally be disputed through the platform used to place the order. This distinction is important because the restaurant prepares the food while a third-party courier may control delivery and some refund decisions.
MyMcDonald’s Rewards Complaints and Missing Points
MyMcDonald’s Rewards allows participating customers to earn points on qualifying purchases and redeem them for eligible rewards. Complaints can involve missing points, expired points, reward redemption or a receipt that was not linked to the account.
McDonald’s states that if an account was not properly identified at the time of purchase, a manual adjustment may be requested for up to seven days after the purchase using a valid receipt. Its current terms also say customers should notify McDonald’s about missing or incorrectly calculated points within six months of the qualifying purchase.
Points are subject to expiration and program terms. McDonald’s says points generally expire on the first day of the month after the sixth month from when they were earned. Customers should review current terms in the app because reward rules, participating restaurants and available items can change.
McDonald’s Prices and App Deals
McDonald’s prices can vary by restaurant. Franchise ownership, local costs, taxes, delivery fees, service fees and app promotions can all affect the final total. A price displayed at one restaurant or in an advertisement may not match another location.
For delivery orders, the final cost can include a delivery fee, service fee, small-order fee, taxes and tip. Compare the checkout total before placing an order rather than relying only on the listed menu price.
McDonald’s BBB Complaints
The Better Business Bureau profile for McDonald’s USA, LLC’s headquarters and corporate-owned locations currently shows an A+ BBB rating and accreditation. The profile displayed 433 complaints during the previous three years and 171 complaints closed during the previous 12 months when checked on September 17, 2026.
The largest BBB complaint categories shown were service or repair issues, product issues, delivery issues and customer-service issues. Those totals cover the headquarters profile and corporate-owned locations included by BBB; they should not be interpreted as the complaint record for every independently operated McDonald’s franchise.
McDonald’s Reviews on Trustpilot
The McDonald’s Trustpilot profile displayed a 1.9 out of 5 TrustScore from approximately 1,982 reviews when checked on September 17, 2026. Recent review themes included food quality, missing items, incorrect orders, staff interactions and wait times.
Trustpilot reviews are user-submitted experiences. They can be useful for identifying issues to investigate, but they do not establish how frequently a problem occurs across all McDonald’s restaurants.
How to File a McDonald’s Complaint
- Identify the restaurant and order. Keep the receipt, restaurant number, order number, date, time and payment method.
- Contact the restaurant first for food or pickup issues. McDonald’s specifically directs many Mobile Order & Pay refund requests to the restaurant that completed the sale.
- Contact the delivery provider for delivery-order issues. Check the receipt to determine whether Uber Eats, DoorDash or another service handled delivery.
- Escalate unresolved issues. Use McDonald’s official contact form or Customer Care and provide the case details and prior steps taken.
- Keep records. Save screenshots, emails, case numbers and refund confirmations until the matter is resolved.
McDonald’s Corporate vs. Franchise Restaurant Complaints
Most McDonald’s restaurants are independently owned and operated by franchisees, while some are company-operated. This can affect who handles a refund, employment matter or local service complaint. McDonald’s states that when a mobile order is finalized, the purchase is made directly from the selected restaurant.
For a local order problem, begin with that restaurant. For app, rewards or broader corporate concerns, McDonald’s Customer Care can provide another escalation path.
