Overview
Etsy is an online marketplace operated by Etsy, Inc. Independent shops sell handmade, vintage, custom and other permitted goods. The shop usually controls its listings, processing time, shipping method and stated return terms; Etsy provides checkout, messaging, support and a case system for eligible order problems. A purchase from one shop is not the same as a purchase from every shop on Etsy.
Share an Etsy experience on ZeroStars’ −5 through +5 scale, including 0 for a neutral experience. In your review, name the type of item and shop, the promised and actual delivery dates, its condition or customization details, what you requested from the seller and how any Etsy case was resolved. Do not publish your full order number, address or payment information.
Before You Buy from an Etsy Shop
Read the exact listing, photos, personalization instructions, processing time, estimated delivery window, shipping charges and shop return policy. Ask the seller through Etsy Messages if you need a detail confirmed before ordering. Shop policies can vary between sellers and even between a shop’s listings. A custom or digital item may have different terms from a ready-to-ship physical product. Etsy’s Purchase Protection has its own eligibility requirements; it is not a general satisfaction or product warranty.
Customer Service and Help with an Order
For delivery status, a change to a personalized order, an address correction, cancellation, return or exchange, start with the seller. Sign in, open Purchases and reviews, select the order and choose “Help with Order.” On the Etsy app, open You, then Purchases and the order’s Help option. Include photos when the item is damaged or significantly different from the listing. If the seller has not resolved the issue and at least 48 hours have passed since your Help request, the order may offer “Open a case” when its other timing requirements are met.
Etsy’s support page says there is no customer-service number that buyers can simply call. You can request any available callback only through Etsy’s official Contact support flow. Seller support may be available through Shop Manager for eligible active shops. Be cautious with phone numbers found in search results or sent by strangers.
Shipping, Non-Delivery and Late Packages
Each seller sets processing and shipping details for its listings. Check the estimated delivery range shown at checkout and in your order, and ask the seller for tracking or an update through Help with Order. For qualifying purchases, Etsy says its Purchase Protection covers items that never arrive or arrive at least seven days after the maximum estimated delivery date provided at checkout, subject to the program’s exceptions. A delay caused by circumstances outside the seller’s control may be excluded.
For physical items, Etsy says a case generally becomes available after the original estimated delivery date has passed and 48 hours have passed since the Help with Order request. Its case guidance says the case deadline is 30 days from the order’s estimated delivery date. Follow the date shown in your own order and do not wait until the end of the window to contact the seller.
Damaged, Incorrect and Not-as-Described Orders
If the item arrives broken, the wrong color or material, or significantly different from the listing, save the packaging and take photographs. Message the shop through the order’s Help flow. Etsy’s Purchase Protection may provide a full refund for a qualifying damaged or not-as-described order after the case requirements are met. The seller’s “no returns” rule for a change of mind does not by itself decide whether an eligible order problem qualifies for Etsy’s case process. Etsy may request photos, measurements or other documentation.
Returns, Exchanges and Cancellation
There is no universal Etsy return window for a change of mind. Read the listing and shop policies for return and exchange conditions, including any limitations on customized, personalized or digital items. Etsy says sellers are generally not required to accept a return, exchange or refund unless their stated listing policy or applicable requirements provide for one. Agree on the return address, deadline, shipping method and who pays postage in Etsy Messages before mailing anything. A return sent without agreement may not qualify for Etsy’s case system.
A buyer can ask a seller to cancel an order, but the seller performs the cancellation. Ask promptly, particularly for made-to-order items, and keep the reply in Etsy Messages. Seller-specific terms and how far production or shipment has progressed matter. A manufacturer’s warranty, if one exists, is separate from both the shop’s return policy and Etsy Purchase Protection.
Refund Timing, Payment Method and Etsy Credit
Refunds can go to the original payment method or, when the buyer selects that option, to Etsy credit. Etsy says card and bank refunds typically show on statements within two to five business days after issuance, though a provider may take longer; refunds to some cards outside the United States may take up to 30 days. Etsy credit can appear in the account when approved. Check the refund confirmation and the payment method originally used before assuming a card credit is missing.
For an eligible case about an item significantly different from its listing, Etsy says the refund includes the item price plus original and return shipping, under its case rules. A voluntary seller return can have different agreed terms. Standalone PayPal or a bank chargeback can follow a different dispute route; Etsy warns that opening a chargeback can prevent an Etsy case for the same order. Review the payment route shown on the transaction.
Guest Orders, Gift Cards and Promotions
A guest buyer must connect the order to an Etsy account to start a Help request or case and access Etsy Purchase Protection. Look for the order confirmation email and follow Etsy’s instructions to claim the order. Etsy gift cards and Etsy credit can be used only with shops that accept them; check the listing or shop payment options before checkout. Promotional credit may have its own expiry or eligibility terms. Keep gift-card codes private and use Etsy’s official redemption and checkout pages.
Account Security and Seller Scams
Keep payment and discussions in Etsy’s checkout and messaging systems. A person asking you to pay off-platform, share a verification code, or call a supposed Etsy support number may be attempting a scam. Etsy says its own messages appear in the “From Etsy” folder, and legitimate phone outreach follows a callback request that you initiated. Forward suspected phishing email to ReportPhishing@etsy.com; that reporting mailbox is not a customer-support channel. If you cannot sign in, follow the recovery route on Etsy Help.

Frequently asked questions
Etsy FAQs
Does Etsy accept returns from every shop?
No. For an ordinary change of mind, read the return policy on the specific listing and ask the seller before sending an item back. A qualifying damaged, missing, late or not-as-described order may follow Etsy’s separate Purchase Protection process.
How do I get Etsy to step in?
Open Help with Order, message the seller and allow at least 48 hours. For physical goods, the original estimated delivery date must also have passed before the case option is generally available. Etsy shows your case deadline in the order’s Help area.
Can I call Etsy customer service?
Etsy does not publish a general inbound support number. Sign in and use its official Contact support flow; if a callback is available, request it there.
What happens when an Etsy order arrives damaged?
Photograph the damage and contact the shop using Help with Order. If the order qualifies and the seller cannot resolve the issue, open a case within the deadline. Etsy may require supporting evidence.
When does an Etsy refund appear?
Etsy says bank and card refunds usually appear within two to five business days after issuance, but timing varies by provider. A chosen Etsy-credit refund appears in your Etsy account instead of on the card statement.
Can a guest buyer open a case?
Yes, after linking the guest purchase to a new or existing Etsy account and meeting the case requirements. Start from the purchase confirmation email.
Are Etsy and eBay the same company?
No. Etsy, Inc. and eBay Inc. are separate companies. Etsy sold Depop to eBay in July 2026; that sale did not transfer ownership of the Etsy marketplace.
