Overview
Cox Communications reviews and complaints can help other customers understand an Internet, TV, Mobile, home phone, billing or service experience. Share what happened, which service you used and whether the company resolved the issue. Positive, neutral and negative experiences are welcome on ZeroStars’ −5 to +5 rating scale.
Cox is now part of Spectrum. Cox’s current customer information says existing Cox residential service, equipment, account information, billing and current plans continue during the transition, with no immediate action required. Because the integration is still underway, some support pages and store references now use the Spectrum name while customers may still manage existing Cox services through Cox.com and the Cox App by Spectrum.
What to Include in Your Cox Communications Review
A useful review explains your own experience in enough detail for another customer to understand it:
- Service and location: Internet, Contour TV, Cox Mobile, home phone or another service, plus your city or state.
- What happened: the approximate date, outage, speed issue, bill line item, installation appointment, equipment problem or account change.
- Support route: phone, chat, SmartHelp, app, store or technician visit.
- Outcome: what Cox or Spectrum support promised, whether it happened and whether any credit, refund, repair or account adjustment was completed.
Choose the rating that reflects your experience. A rating of 0 is valid. Do not post account numbers, passwords, payment information, your complete service address or unredacted bills in a public review.
Cox and Spectrum Transition
Cox’s current transition page says existing residential customers can continue using their current Cox service, equipment, account information, billing methods, website and app while Cox and Spectrum become one company. It also says current plan pricing and existing promotions or contract terms remain in place according to the customer’s current agreement unless a later change is communicated.
This transition is important when reviewing Cox because branding and support routes may change over time. Describe whether your experience occurred before or during the transition, and verify current instructions through Cox’s official Spectrum transition page.
Internet Service and Speed Problems
Internet performance can vary by address, plan, network conditions, in-home wiring, gateway or modem, Wi-Fi conditions and connected devices. Cox’s support guidance notes that device capability, shared bandwidth, gateway placement and public Internet traffic can affect observed performance.
If you are reporting a speed problem, record the subscribed plan, whether the test used Wi-Fi or a wired Ethernet connection, the approximate time of day and whether the issue affects one device or multiple devices. Avoid treating one speed test as proof of a universal network problem.
Outages and Service Interruptions
Cox directs customers to its outage support tools, SmartHelp and the Cox App by Spectrum for service interruptions. The support tools can identify known outages and provide troubleshooting for equipment and connectivity problems.
For a review involving an outage, note when service stopped, when it returned, whether Cox showed a known outage and what support said. If you request a service credit, document the request and the final account adjustment rather than assuming every interruption automatically qualifies for a credit.
Billing and Unexpected Charges
If a Cox bill changes unexpectedly, compare the current statement with the prior bill, your order confirmation and any promotional terms. Ask support to identify the exact line item, effective date and whether the change is a one-time charge, an expired promotion, equipment fee, service change, tax or other recurring amount.
During the Spectrum transition, Cox says existing billing methods continue and current plan pricing remains unchanged unless the customer changes service or is later notified of an update. Individual bills can still vary because of plan terms, promotions, equipment, taxes, fees and account changes.
Price Increases and Promotional Rates
Internet, TV and mobile pricing can differ by market, address, plan and promotional period. A discounted introductory rate may not be the long-term recurring price. When reviewing a price increase, include the old amount, the new amount, the date the change took effect and any explanation shown on the bill or provided by support.
Cox’s transition guidance says existing promotions, discounts and contract terms are being honored according to the current Cox agreement. Customers should still verify the end date and conditions of their own promotion rather than assuming another customer’s terms apply.
Installation and Technician Visits
Cox offers self-installation through Easy Connect for eligible service and also provides technician installation when needed. Availability and installation charges can depend on the address, service and whether the location qualifies for self-installation.
For installation reviews, note whether the appointment was self-install or technician-assisted, the scheduled window, whether the visit occurred on time, what equipment was installed and whether service worked before the technician left. Cox says already scheduled appointments and installations continue during the transition to Spectrum.
Equipment, Modems, Routers and Returns
Customers may use Cox-provided equipment such as gateways, cable boxes, receivers, remotes and related hardware depending on service. Keep the serial number or identifying information for equipment tied to your account.
Cox’s current disconnection guidance says equipment can be returned after cancellation at a Spectrum store or a UPS Store during store hours. Before returning anything, confirm which devices Cox expects back and keep the store receipt or UPS tracking record until the account no longer shows the equipment. Return procedures can change during the Spectrum integration, so use the current service cancellation and equipment-return guidance.
Cancellation and Account Closure
Cox’s current service-change page directs customers to call 1-800-234-3993 to disconnect or make certain account changes. The page says customers should provide at least 24 hours’ notice before disconnection. It also says non-mobile services are prorated through the disconnection date, while Spectrum Mobile service is billed for the full billing cycle.
Before ending service, confirm the effective cancellation date, final billing treatment, any equipment that must be returned and whether canceling one service changes discounts or pricing on another. Keep the cancellation confirmation and equipment-return documentation until the final balance is resolved.
Refunds and Credits
A service credit, account adjustment and refund to a payment method are different outcomes. If Cox agrees to an adjustment, ask for the amount, where it will appear and the expected timing. If the account is closing, verify whether the final statement must process before a refund can be issued.
Refund and credit eligibility can vary by circumstance, plan, billing status and local terms. A review should state what was requested and what actually posted to the account.
TV Service and Channel Issues
Cox Contour TV and related equipment can involve receivers, DVR service, apps, channel packages and streaming access. Channel availability, equipment and pricing can vary by market and plan.
During the Spectrum transition, Cox says eligible TV customers will receive additional Spectrum-related streaming benefits over time, and some older equipment may require an upgrade for certain apps. If a review concerns missing channels, app access or a receiver problem, identify the package and equipment involved rather than assuming the issue applies to all Cox TV customers.
Cox Mobile Service
Cox Mobile remains part of the current Cox customer experience during the transition, while Spectrum says Spectrum Mobile will be introduced as integration continues. Mobile plan eligibility, device financing, promotions and billing rules may differ from home Internet and TV service.
If a review involves Cox Mobile, include the device, plan, coverage location, activation or number-transfer issue and whether the problem concerns cellular service, Wi-Fi calling, billing or a device purchase. Confirm cancellation and billing terms for the specific mobile account.
Coverage and Availability
Cox and Spectrum Internet, TV, phone and mobile availability is not identical at every address. Service options, speeds and installation methods can vary by market and property. Use the provider’s address check before relying on another customer’s plan or availability.
For coverage complaints, identify the city or general area without posting your full street address. This helps readers understand the context while protecting personal information.
App and Online Account Access
Cox says customers can continue using Cox.com and the Cox App by Spectrum to manage accounts during the transition. The app can be used for account management, billing, data usage, installation help, SmartHelp and support messaging.
If account access fails, document whether the problem affects the website, app or both, and whether password reset or support resolved it. Do not post login credentials, security codes or account identifiers in your review.

Frequently asked questions
Cox Communications FAQs
Is Cox Communications still operating after becoming part of Spectrum?
Yes, current Cox customers are still being told to use their existing Cox services, account information, equipment, website and app while the integration with Spectrum continues. Cox’s official site now uses the phrase “Cox is now Spectrum,” but the customer transition is not an immediate forced account migration.
What is the current Cox residential customer support number?
Cox’s current service-change guidance lists 1-800-234-3993. The company also directs customers to online chat, SmartHelp and the Cox App by Spectrum. Verify the latest route on the official contact page because support branding may continue to change during the Spectrum transition.
How do I cancel Cox service?
Cox currently directs residential customers to call 1-800-234-3993 for disconnection and certain account changes. Confirm the end date, final bill, any mobile billing difference and all equipment-return requirements before closing the account.
Where do I return Cox equipment after cancellation?
Cox’s current cancellation page says customers can return equipment such as cable boxes, modems, gateways, remote controls and cables at a Spectrum store or a UPS Store. Keep the receipt or tracking information until the equipment is removed from the account.
Does posting on ZeroStars contact Cox or Spectrum support?
No. ZeroStars is an independent review website. A published review shares your experience but does not open a support case, cancel service, return equipment, request a refund or change your Cox or Spectrum account.
Can I review a resolved Cox problem?
Yes. Explain the original issue, what Cox or Spectrum support did and how it was resolved. Reviews describing successful repairs, useful support, corrected bills or completed refunds are helpful alongside unresolved complaints.
