About GameStop
GameStop sells new and pre-owned video games, consoles, accessories, collectibles and trading cards through U.S. stores, GameStop.com and its app. It also buys eligible used games and devices through its trade-in program. A customer’s experience may depend on whether the item was new or pre-owned, digital or physical, ordered for delivery or purchased in a store. Share a GameStop review on ZeroStars using the −5 to +5 scale; 0 is a valid rating, and positive, neutral and negative experiences are welcome.
What to Include in Your Review
Describe the product, condition, purchase channel and date, price shown at checkout, delivery or pickup promise, and how GameStop addressed any issue. For a trade-in, include the quoted and final offer, product condition and whether you chose cash or store credit. For a return, explain whether the item was opened, what proof of purchase you had and whether the outcome was a refund, exchange or credit. Keep order numbers, account credentials, gift card codes and payment details out of public reviews.
Customer Service, Online Orders and Delivery
GameStop’s help center covers order tracking, payment, returns, pre-orders, digital content and Pro membership. Check your account’s order details for the latest status. If a shipment is late, missing or damaged, save tracking updates, the order confirmation and photographs before contacting Guest Care. GameStop says claims for orders lost in transit or marked delivered but not received must be submitted within 60 days of shipment. Its return policy also notes that a lost-order refund may be reversed if delivery is subsequently verified.
Order changes and cancellation depend on processing status. An online pre-order placed through a signed-in account may show a self-service cancellation option before final processing; guest orders can require help from customer care. A pre-order placed in a store may need action at the original store. Do not assume a submitted order can be changed after it moves to fulfillment.
Returns: New, Pre-Owned and Special Products
Under GameStop’s current published policy, eligible unopened new products generally have a 15-day return window from purchase, while qualifying pre-owned products can receive a full refund within seven days. Special or collector editions of game software and hardware have a seven-day window. PCs, components, laptops, TVs and monitors have a seven-day window and additional restrictions. Pro members get a 30-day return period for eligible unopened new software and hardware, plus a longer defective pre-owned exchange period for eligible items. Check the current policy for the exact product and transaction.
Opened new hardware, software, accessories and collectibles are generally ineligible for a regular refund, although defective items may qualify for an identical exchange during the applicable window. Defective pre-owned items have their own exchange period; for certain computers and tech, GameStop directs customers to the manufacturer. A manufacturer’s warranty or an optional GameStop product protection plan is separate from the retailer’s standard return policy.
Final Sale, Receipts and Refunds
GameStop lists digital products, trading cards, graded PSA cards, blind items, clearance goods, seasonal products, consumables, individual bundle components, books, magazines and guides among its final-sale exclusions. A digital game code or trading card should be checked carefully before purchase. Promotions and coupons may have further limits, and a redeemed Pro reward can affect the refund amount.
For a return, keep a receipt, online order number, confirmation email or other valid proof of purchase. GameStop says returnable merchandise without valid proof is not eligible for a return or exchange, although a qualifying item might be accepted as a trade-in at its current trade value. A gift-receipt return can result in a GameStop gift card or an even exchange. Eligible refunds normally follow the original payment method; posting time depends on the payment provider and return processing.
Online Purchases, Store Returns and Shipping Fees
Most eligible GameStop.com purchases can be returned at a store without a return-shipping fee or sent back under the mail-return rules. There are important exceptions: online items costing more than $500 cannot be returned in store; store purchases must be returned in store; and refurbished tech returns require contacting customer care. The published policy lists an $8.99 fee for shipped returns and a $14.99 fee for shipped video-game console returns. Orders shipped to Puerto Rico, Hawaii or Alaska have an in-store-only return route. Keep original packaging and all included components.
Trade-Ins, Pro Membership and Gift Cards
GameStop’s trade-in offer depends on the item’s eligibility, condition, store and current promotion. Ask which part is cash versus store credit before accepting; a trade-in is different from a refund for a purchase. GameStop Pro is a paid membership. Its terms currently list $25 per year and describe selected discounts, points, a monthly reward, trade-in bonuses and shipping benefits, each with restrictions. Check the account’s renewal setting and the latest terms before subscribing or using a reward. Gift cards, store credit and third-party gaming currency are different payment products; verify balances through official GameStop channels and do not share codes with someone claiming to provide a refund.

Frequently asked questions
GameStop FAQs
How long do I have to return a new GameStop purchase?
Eligible unopened new items generally have a 15-day window. Special or collector editions and certain computers have shorter seven-day windows, and eligible Pro members receive 30 days for unopened new software and hardware. Check the category and proof-of-purchase rules.
Can I return a GameStop.com order at a store?
Most eligible online purchases can be returned in store, but an online item costing more than $500 cannot. Refurbished tech has a customer-care return route. An item bought in a store must be returned in store.
Can I return an opened game or a digital download?
Opened new software is generally not refundable; a defective item may qualify for an identical exchange within its return period. Digital products are final sale under the published policy.
What if I lost my receipt?
GameStop requires valid proof of purchase, such as an order number, confirmation email, receipt, packing slip or return barcode. An item without proof is not eligible for a return or exchange, though an eligible item may have trade-in value.
Is a GameStop trade-in the same as a return?
No. A return follows the purchase policy and can result in a refund, exchange or gift card depending on the circumstances. A trade-in is a separate offer based on a qualifying used item’s current trade value.
How do I report a missing GameStop order?
Check the order status and carrier tracking, then contact Guest Care with the order and shipment details. GameStop’s published return terms require lost-in-transit or delivered-but-not-received claims within 60 days of shipment.
