Overview

Home Depot reviews and complaints can help other shoppers understand experiences with stores, HomeDepot.com orders, pickup, delivery, appliances, installation, returns and customer service. Share a firsthand account—positive, neutral or negative—and choose a rating from −5 to +5. A rating of 0 is valid.

The Home Depot sells home-improvement products to consumers and professional customers in stores and online. The correct support route depends on whether the transaction was a regular store purchase, an online shipment, a major appliance, a special order, a contractor service or a separate credit-card account.

What to Include in Your Home Depot Review
  • The approximate date, store city or online order channel, and product or service category.
  • Whether the item was picked up, shipped, delivered by truck or installed by a contractor.
  • The advertised price, delivery window, product specifications, return rule or work estimate you relied on.
  • The condition of the item at pickup or delivery, including photos kept privately if damaged.
  • Which store, support team, carrier, installer or credit provider handled the issue, and the final outcome.

Do not publish your full order or credit account number, complete receipt barcode, payment details, access codes, home address or identifiable employee information in a public review.

In-Store Shopping and Online Orders

Store prices and inventory may differ from those displayed online. Select the intended store on HomeDepot.com or in the app when checking local availability. A product marked available for pickup can still depend on the store finding and reserving the actual item; wait for a ready notice before traveling for an online pickup order.

For a checkout or store-associate problem, start with the service desk or store manager and keep the receipt. For a HomeDepot.com order, use its order status and online-order support. Installation and rental agreements may have separate providers, schedules and terms.

Returns and Exchanges

Many ordinary Home Depot merchandise purchases are generally returnable within 90 days with proof of purchase, but the current Return Policy lists shorter windows, exclusions and product-specific requirements. Qualifying purchases made with a Home Depot Consumer Credit Card or eligible commercial Home Depot accounts may have a 365-day window, but that extension does not override the policy’s shorter-period and special-item exceptions.

Before buying or returning appliances, gas-powered equipment, customized goods, plants, clearance items or special orders, check the item listing and policy for that category. The plant guarantee and a manufacturer’s product warranty are separate from the usual merchandise return period. Keep all accessories and purchase documents until the return is complete.

Major Appliance Delivery and Damage

Inspect a major appliance at delivery or pickup, document visible damage and notify the delivery team before accepting it when possible. Home Depot’s current major-appliance guidance calls for product damage to be reported within 48 hours of delivery or pickup at 1-800-455-3869. An appliance is not simply governed by the ordinary 90-day merchandise rule.

Delivery, hookup, haul-away and installation services can have distinct charges and conditions. If the appliance does not fit, installation cannot be completed or property is damaged, record what happened and contact the order’s appliance or installation support route promptly. The manufacturer warranty or a separately purchased protection plan may apply to a later repair; neither should be confused with reporting damage at delivery.

Online Purchases Returned in Store

Many eligible HomeDepot.com purchases can be returned to a store. Bring the shipment confirmation or the payment card used for the purchase when possible so the associate can find the transaction. Oversized items or orders with special return instructions may need a scheduled pickup or another route; call 1-800-430-3376 before shipping a large item back on your own.

For a store purchase without a paper receipt, ask the store to look up the transaction. Whether a no-receipt return is accepted and whether it results in store credit depend on the item’s rules and proof the retailer can locate; do not assume a cash or card refund.

Refunds and Store Credit

Home Depot’s refund policy generally sends an eligible return with valid proof of purchase back to the original payment method, subject to exceptions. A gift-card purchase can be refunded as store credit. The time it takes for a credit to appear after Home Depot processes it also depends on the financial institution.

Check that the return was accepted, note the refund amount and method, and keep the confirmation. A product return, a cancelled order and a temporary payment authorization can appear differently on a statement.

Pickup, Curbside and Delivery

Home Depot offers store pickup for eligible online products; availability, timing and identity requirements vary by store and item. Follow the order’s ready notification and pickup directions. Some stores or products may offer curbside service. If an item is missing from a pickup order, address it with the selected store promptly and retain the pickup record.

For shipped goods, compare the tracking status with the actual delivery location and report a damaged, incomplete or missing order through HomeDepot.com support. For truck delivery, note the promised date, carrier contact, delivery conditions and any visible damage. Keep photographs and packaging until the retailer tells you whether an inspection or return is required.

Order Cancellation and Changes

Home Depot offers order cancellation and edit options through its official order guidance. Availability depends on how far the order has progressed and whether it is a special, custom, pickup or delivery order. Open the order details promptly; if cancellation is no longer offered, ask which return or service route applies. Do not assume a scheduled installation is cancelled just because an associated product order changes.

Price Matching, Promotions and Pro Xtra

Home Depot publishes separate instructions for in-store and online price matching. For a store match, bring proof of an eligible competitor’s lower price before completing the purchase. For an online match, contact Customer Solutions with the Home Depot item number and competitor listing. The products and offers must meet current eligibility rules; local pricing and availability can vary.

Pro Xtra is Home Depot’s loyalty program for professional customers. Benefits, discounts and rewards depend on the account, eligible purchases and program terms. For a missing reward or promotion, identify the transaction, offer period and account used. A Pro Xtra membership, a commercial credit account and a tool-rental contract are distinct products.

Credit Cards, Financing and Protection Plans

Home Depot offers consumer and commercial credit products with separate account servicing. Promotional financing is governed by the card issuer’s offer and payment terms; a retail service agent may not be able to correct a card statement or interest charge. Use the official Credit Center and account-specific support number for card billing.

A manufacturer warranty, a Home Depot merchandise return and a separately purchased protection plan offer different remedies. Keep the sales receipt, model and serial number, warranty document and plan confirmation. Ask which coverage is being applied and whether it calls for repair, replacement, reimbursement or a return.

Gift Cards, Fraud and Account Security

Gift-card balances and refunds may be handled differently from card payments. Never disclose a gift-card number, PIN, password or one-time security code to an unsolicited caller, text or public commenter. If an order or charge is unfamiliar, check your Home Depot order history and posted account activity, secure your login and contact the bank or issuer promptly if a charge remains unauthorized.
