Overview

Nationwide reviews and complaints on ZeroStars give customers a place to describe insurance experiences, from buying coverage and managing bills to handling a claim. Share what happened, how Nationwide responded, and whether the issue was resolved. You can rate your experience from −5 to +5, including 0.

This page covers topics to consider when writing a review and practical ways to contact the company. ZeroStars is an independent review website and is not affiliated with Nationwide. Posting here does not file an insurance claim or send a complaint to the company.

About Nationwide

Nationwide offers insurance across vehicle, property, personal and business lines, alongside financial products. Its website includes auto, homeowners, renters, life and pet insurance. These products can involve different servicing teams, policy terms and claims procedures. Identify the specific product in your review so readers can understand which experience you are describing.

Check the insurer named on your declarations page and note your state. A local agency interaction, an online billing problem and a claim decision may involve different people. Explain who handled each stage without posting private employee information or your own account details.

Premiums, Renewals and Billing

If your concern is a higher renewal premium, compare the old and new declarations pages. Look at the total policy premium, term length, coverage limits, deductibles and listed discounts. A monthly payment alone may not show whether the underlying price or payment arrangement changed.

Ask your agent or service representative for an explanation of any difference you cannot reconcile. For duplicate payments or an unexpected balance, keep the bill, payment confirmation and date you contacted support. A useful review distinguishes the original charge from the company’s response and states whether the billing issue remains open.

Nationwide Claims and Settlement Questions

Nationwide’s personal insurance claims FAQ explains that customers can report eligible auto, property and watercraft claims online, through an agent or by calling 1-800-421-3535. It also describes online tracking for auto, home and renters claims. Have the loss details and policy information available when reporting.

For a disputed estimate, ask for an itemized explanation and identify the specific damage or expense you believe was missed. Keep photographs, estimates, invoices and a dated contact log. If coverage is denied, request the written decision and the policy language used to support it.

Nationwide notes that direct deposit is not available for every claim and that a mortgage company may appear on a property claim payment. Payment method and payees can therefore be separate issues from the amount approved. Ask your representative what is needed to move your particular payment forward.

SmartRide and SmartMiles

SmartRide is Nationwide’s driving-based discount program. Its published factors include mileage, hard braking and acceleration, idle time and nighttime driving. Discounts, eligibility and program requirements vary, and the calculated driving behavior discount can be zero. Do not assume an advertised maximum will apply to your policy.

If reviewing SmartRide, explain whether your concern involved enrollment, app activation, trip recording or the discount shown at renewal. Keep screenshots for your private records and ask support to explain any data you believe is incorrect.

SmartMiles uses a base premium plus a variable mileage component. Nationwide describes mileage tracking through a device or an eligible connected car. The monthly amount can change with miles driven; availability and terms vary. For a billing complaint, compare the mileage period, recorded distance and quoted cost per mile before requesting a correction.

Cancellations and Refund Questions

When requesting cancellation, ask which steps and documents are required for your policy. Confirm the requested effective date and ask for written confirmation when the change is processed. If you are replacing coverage, check the start date of the replacement policy before ending the existing one.

Request an itemized explanation of any remaining balance or refund and the expected payment method. Do not assume that stopping an automatic payment cancels the policy. In a review, include the request date, the response and whether the final account statement matched the explanation you received. Avoid posting bank information or a full policy number.

How to Escalate a Nationwide Complaint

Start with the person or department handling the issue. State what happened, provide the relevant dates and explain the correction you are requesting. If the response leaves a specific question unanswered, ask for a supervisor or the appropriate internal review process and keep a copy of the written response.

For an unresolved insurance complaint, the NAIC state insurance department directory can help you locate your state’s regulator and complaint resources. Include supporting documents through the regulator’s official process. A public review is separate from that process and does not replace responding to notices or meeting deadlines stated in your policy or correspondence.

Writing a Useful Nationwide Review

Describe your own experience and separate facts from your interpretation. Include the product, state, approximate dates, support channels used and outcome. Explain what worked as well as what failed. If the company later resolves the issue, update your review so readers can see the full sequence.

Choose a score from −5 to +5, including 0, that reflects your experience. Leave out claim numbers, home addresses, medical records and other sensitive information.
