Overview

CenturyLink reviews and complaints can help other customers understand an Internet, home phone, billing or service experience. Share what happened, which service you used and whether the company resolved the issue. Positive, neutral and negative experiences are welcome on ZeroStars’ −5 to +5 rating scale.

CenturyLink remains an active consumer brand associated with Lumen Technologies, particularly for legacy copper-based Internet and voice services. CenturyLink and the related Quantum Fiber brand have also moved some customers between platforms in different areas. Because those transitions are location- and account-specific, customers should follow the instructions provided for their own service rather than assume every CenturyLink or Quantum Fiber account follows the same path.

What to Include in Your CenturyLink Review

A useful CenturyLink review explains your own experience in enough detail for another customer to understand it:

  • Service and location: Internet, Fiber Internet, home phone, Connected Voice or another service, plus your city or state.
  • What happened: the approximate date, outage, speed problem, bill change, installation appointment, equipment issue or account transition.
  • Support route: phone, chat, My CenturyLink app, online account or technician visit.
  • Outcome: what CenturyLink promised and whether the repair, credit, refund, cancellation or equipment return was completed.

Choose the rating that reflects your experience. A rating of 0 is valid. Do not post account numbers, passwords, payment information, one-time security codes, your complete service address or unredacted bills in a public review.

CenturyLink, Quantum Fiber and Lumen

CenturyLink and Quantum Fiber are related consumer brands associated with Lumen. Lumen has historically used CenturyLink for many legacy copper-based residential services and Quantum Fiber for fiber-based residential service. Recent customer transitions have not followed a single nationwide direction: some CenturyLink customers have moved to Quantum Fiber, while some Quantum Fiber customers in certain areas have moved back to CenturyLink for billing and account management.

If your account is being moved, read the notice sent for your specific address and account. Check whether your billing portal, app, equipment, price protection, phone service or login credentials are changing before assuming instructions for another market apply to you.

Internet Service and Speed Problems

CenturyLink Internet availability and maximum speeds vary by address and network technology. Current CenturyLink offers include copper-based Internet in many areas, while some customers also have CenturyLink-branded fiber service. Wireless performance can vary because of distance from the router, interference, device capability, home construction and other factors.

If you are reviewing a speed problem, include your subscribed plan, whether the test used Wi-Fi or a wired Ethernet connection, the approximate time of day and whether the issue affected one device or multiple devices. This gives readers more useful context than a single unexplained speed test.

Outages and Service Interruptions

CenturyLink lets customers check outages through My CenturyLink on the web or in the app. When an account is affected by a known outage, customers can sign up for status notifications and receive an estimated restoration update when available.

For an outage review, record when service stopped, when it returned, whether CenturyLink identified a known outage and what support said. If you request a service credit, document the request and whether it actually appeared on the account. Credit eligibility can vary by service, state and circumstances.

Billing and Unexpected Charges

If a CenturyLink bill changes unexpectedly, compare the current statement with the prior bill, your order confirmation and any promotion terms. Ask support to identify the exact line item and whether it is a recurring charge, one-time fee, equipment charge, tax, surcharge, expired promotion or other adjustment.

Current CenturyLink offers can include Paperless Billing requirements, taxes, fees and location-specific pricing. Some older customers also have legacy pricing arrangements or Price for Life promotions. Another customer’s rate or discount should not be treated as universal.

Price Increases and Promotional Rates

CenturyLink’s current support materials explain that some Internet monthly recurring charges can increase with advance notice. CenturyLink also states that customers who still have an active Price for Life promotion are not subject to certain published recurring-charge increases covered by that notice.

If your review concerns a price increase, include the prior amount, new amount, effective date and any notice or explanation you received. If you believe a Price for Life or other protected rate applies, identify the exact plan or account terms rather than relying on the plan name alone.

Installation and Technician Visits

Installation requirements depend on the address, service type and network technology. Some customers may receive self-installation equipment, while others need a technician for line work, modem setup, fiber equipment or phone service.

For installation reviews, record the scheduled window, whether the technician arrived, what work was completed, any charges discussed in advance and whether the service worked before the visit ended. Keep appointment confirmations until the installation or repair is fully resolved.

Equipment, Modems, Routers and Returns

CenturyLink customers may lease or purchase modems, routers, Wi-Fi pods, Connected Voice equipment or other hardware depending on the service. Return requirements depend on whether the equipment was leased, purchased, replaced or tied to a service cancellation.

CenturyLink’s current equipment-return instructions use UPS. Customers can start the return-label process online and must generally return leased equipment within 30 days after cancellation or replacement to avoid an equipment charge that can be as high as $200. CenturyLink says physical CenturyLink locations do not accept equipment returns. Keep the UPS receipt or tracking information until the return is reflected on the account.

Cancellation and Account Closure

CenturyLink’s current cancellation page tells customers to call or chat to cancel service. Because support numbers can vary by region, use the contact number shown on the official contact page or on your account. If you lease a modem/router or Connected Voice equipment, CenturyLink requires the equipment to be returned within 30 days after cancellation.

Before closing an account, confirm the requested disconnect date, final billing rules, any bundle effects, equipment that must be returned and whether a separate DIRECTV or DISH subscription must be canceled directly with that provider.

Final Bills, Refunds and Credits

CenturyLink says customers can receive more than one closing bill. The first final bill captures known charges, while a revised final bill can include later equipment charges, long-distance charges, partner-billed items or other adjustments.

For many CenturyLink residential services, charges are billed for the full billing cycle and may not be prorated if service is canceled before the last day of the cycle, although state-specific rules and other service types can differ. If the account has a deposit or credit balance, verify how and when that balance will be applied or refunded.

Contracts and Early Termination

Many current CenturyLink consumer Internet offers are month-to-month, but CenturyLink’s Internet Subscriber Agreement still contains terms for accounts that were ordered with a specific term commitment. Customers with a term commitment can be subject to an early termination charge under the agreement.

Before canceling, review your own order confirmation and agreement. Do not assume a no-contract advertisement for a current offer overrides an older account with different terms.

Home Phone and Connected Voice

CenturyLink continues to support home phone and Connected Voice services in applicable areas. Features, regulations, 911 limitations, battery-backup needs and pricing can differ by service and market.

If your review involves phone service, describe whether the problem concerns dial tone, call quality, voicemail, number transfer, long-distance charges, Connected Voice equipment or another specific feature.

TV and Bundled Services

CenturyLink does not directly manage all television services that may appear in a bundle. Its current cancellation guidance specifically notes that DIRECTV and DISH manage their own satellite television subscriptions, so those services may need to be canceled with the TV provider directly.

If you are reviewing a bundle, identify which company billed and supported each part of the package. Canceling one service can also change a bundle discount, so verify the effect before making changes.

Security, Scam and Phishing Concerns

CenturyLink warns customers about phishing emails, spoofed phone calls and scammers posing as CenturyLink representatives. The company says legitimate CenturyLink-related emails should come from CenturyLink or Lumen domains and advises customers not to reply to suspicious messages with personal information.

If you receive an unexpected payment or account request, end the interaction and contact CenturyLink using a known official support route. Do not publish private financial or login information in a ZeroStars review.

Coverage and Availability

CenturyLink service availability, maximum speeds and network technology are address-specific. Legacy copper-based Internet and phone service remain available in many markets, while fiber customers may be served under CenturyLink or Quantum Fiber depending on the account and area.

For an availability review, identify your city or general area without posting your full street address. This gives useful context while protecting personal information.

App and Online Account Access

My CenturyLink on the web and in the app can be used for account management, billing, payments, outage notifications and other support functions. Customers whose service is moving between CenturyLink and Quantum Fiber may receive account-specific instructions about which portal or app to use.

If your review concerns login problems, note whether the issue affected the website, app or both and whether password reset or support resolved it. Never post usernames, passwords or one-time verification codes in a public review.

Frequently asked questions

CenturyLink FAQs

Is CenturyLink still a current company and brand?

Yes. CenturyLink remains an active consumer brand associated with Lumen Technologies and continues to provide residential Internet, phone and related services in applicable areas.

Is CenturyLink the same as Quantum Fiber?

They are related brands, but they are not interchangeable for every account. Some customers have moved from CenturyLink to Quantum Fiber, while certain Quantum Fiber customers have moved to CenturyLink. Follow the transition notice for your specific account and location.

What is the current CenturyLink customer service number?

CenturyLink’s official contact page regionalizes support. It currently lists 1-800-244-1111 for many existing-customer areas and 1-800-201-4099 in certain CenturyLink regions. Check the official contact page or your bill for the number tied to your service area.

How do I check a CenturyLink outage?

Sign in to My CenturyLink on the web or in the app. CenturyLink displays known outage information there and allows affected customers to sign up for status notifications.

How do I cancel CenturyLink service?

CenturyLink’s current cancellation page instructs customers to call or chat. Use the official contact page or your account to identify the correct regional support number, then confirm the disconnect date, final bill and equipment-return requirements.

How do I return CenturyLink equipment?

CenturyLink currently uses UPS for equipment returns. Start the return-label process through CenturyLink’s equipment-return page, ship required leased equipment within the stated deadline and keep the UPS receipt or tracking record until the return is cleared from the account.

Does posting on ZeroStars contact CenturyLink or Lumen support?

No. ZeroStars is an independent review website. A published review shares your experience but does not open a support case, cancel service, return equipment, request a refund or change your CenturyLink account.

Can I review a CenturyLink problem that was resolved?

Yes. Explain the original problem, what CenturyLink did and how it was resolved. Reviews describing successful repairs, helpful support, corrected bills or completed refunds can be useful alongside unresolved complaints.
