About Viasat

Overview
Viasat reviews and complaints can help other customers understand a satellite Internet, billing, installation, equipment or customer-service experience. Share what happened, which plan you used and whether the company resolved the issue. Positive, neutral and negative experiences are welcome on ZeroStars’ −5 to +5 rating scale.
Viasat provides residential satellite Internet across eligible U.S. locations, with current plan names including Essentials and Unleashed. Current offers, speeds, pricing, equipment and data policies vary by address and plan. Viasat also offers certain add-ons such as Viasat Voice and CyberProtect.
What to Include in Your Viasat Review
A useful Viasat review explains your own experience in enough detail for another customer to understand it:
- Plan and location: Essentials, Unleashed, a legacy plan or another service, plus your city or state.
- What happened: the approximate date, speed issue, congestion, billing problem, installation appointment, equipment issue, weather interruption or cancellation.
- Support route: phone, chat, My Viasat, mobile app or technician visit.
- Outcome: what Viasat promised and whether the repair, credit, refund, cancellation or equipment return was completed.
Choose the rating that reflects your experience. A rating of 0 is valid. Do not publish account numbers, passwords, payment details, verification codes, your full service address or unredacted bills in a public review.
Satellite Internet Performance and Speed Problems
Viasat residential service is primarily satellite-based, so performance differs from cable or fiber Internet. Current Viasat materials describe plan speeds as “up to” speeds and state that actual speeds are not guaranteed.
If your review concerns speed, include the plan, whether the test used Wi-Fi or Ethernet, the approximate time of day and whether the issue affected one device or multiple devices. Satellite latency, network congestion, Wi-Fi conditions, device capability and weather can all affect the experience.
Current Essentials and Unleashed Plans
Viasat’s current public plan page lists Essentials with a high-speed data allowance plus unlimited standard data, and Unleashed with unlimited high-speed data. Unleashed is specifically advertised with no data caps or contracts.
Plan details and promotions can change, and not every plan is available at every address. If you are reviewing a legacy Viasat plan, identify the actual plan name and agreement instead of assuming current Unleashed terms apply.
Data, Congestion and Reduced Priority
Viasat’s current Unleashed FAQ says customers receive unlimited data but can experience reduced priority during periods of network congestion if their usage is trending above the company’s typical residential usage level. This can result in slower speeds during busy periods.
Other Viasat plans can use different high-speed-data or bandwidth-management rules. If your complaint concerns slow service after heavy use, include the plan and your current usage information from My Viasat.
Weather and Service Interruptions
Satellite service can be affected by heavy weather at the customer’s location or elsewhere along the satellite network path. Equipment alignment, obstructions, power issues and network congestion can also interrupt service.
For a service-interruption review, note when the issue began, weather conditions if relevant, what modem or app diagnostics showed and what Viasat support said. A local satellite-link issue is not necessarily the same as a provider-wide outage.
Billing and Unexpected Charges
Viasat is currently a paperless billing provider for most residential customers. Bills and payment history can be reviewed through My Viasat, and customers typically keep a payment method on file for automatic monthly billing.
Current billing materials identify possible recurring plan charges, equipment lease charges, optional add-ons, one-time fees, taxes, an Administrative Cost Recovery Fee and other adjustments. Agent-assisted payments can also carry a separate assistance fee. If a charge is unclear, ask Viasat to identify the exact line item.
Price Changes and Promotional Rates
Viasat pricing can vary by plan, service address, equipment arrangement and promotion. Current offers can include introductory discounts for the first few months, followed by a higher regular monthly rate.
If your review concerns a price increase, include the old amount, new amount, effective date and any promotional or billing notice you received. Do not assume another customer’s advertised price applies to your location or plan.
Installation and Technician Visits
Current Viasat residential satellite Internet offers include professional installation. Standard installation typically involves mounting and aligning the satellite dish, installing or connecting the indoor modem and confirming service operation.
For installation reviews, note the appointment window, whether the technician arrived, where equipment was installed, whether any non-standard charges were discussed and whether service worked before the technician left.
Equipment, Modems, TRIA and Returns
Viasat’s current return guide says customers asked to return leased satellite equipment generally must send back the indoor modem, its power cord and the TRIA—the transmit/receive assembly attached to the satellite dish. The dish and mounting brackets are not returned.
After an account is disconnected, Viasat currently gives customers 30 calendar days to return required leased equipment. Viasat specifically warns customers not to ship equipment without the Leased Equipment Recovery Kit and Viasat-provided shipping label. Keep the shipment receipt and tracking details until the equipment is cleared from the account.
Cancellation and Account Closure
Viasat directs residential customers to Customer Care at 1-855-463-9333 for account changes and cancellation-related help. Before canceling, confirm the effective disconnect date, final billing treatment, whether your plan has a minimum service term and which leased equipment must be returned.
Current Unleashed marketing states that plan has no contracts, but legacy plans and other Viasat arrangements can have minimum service terms. Review the agreement tied to your own account before assuming there is no termination fee.
Contracts and Early Termination Fees
Viasat’s current residential customer agreement still includes provisions for plans that have a Minimum Service Term or Renewal Service Term. When an applicable term exists, the agreement says the termination fee is generally calculated as the number of remaining months multiplied by $15, unless a different fee applies to that plan.
This does not mean every current Viasat plan has a contract. Current Unleashed service is advertised with no contracts. Legacy and specialized plans can differ.
Unreturned Equipment Fees
Viasat’s residential agreement says additional charges can apply if required leased equipment is not returned within the applicable return period. The exact fee can depend on the equipment and plan.
Because the outdoor TRIA is part of the required return for many satellite accounts, customers should read the recovery-kit instructions carefully. If removing the TRIA is unsafe or impractical, contact Viasat before the return deadline rather than improvising a return.
Refunds and Credits
Viasat’s current billing FAQ says refunds are returned to the payment method from which the payment originated. Timing can depend on the type of adjustment and the customer’s bank or card issuer.
A service credit, refund to a payment method and reversal of an equipment or termination fee are different outcomes. If Viasat agrees to an adjustment, ask for the exact amount and where it will appear.
Moving Viasat Service
Viasat currently tells customers who are moving to contact Customer Care at 1-855-463-9333 roughly one week before the move. Availability and plan options can differ at the new address.
Viasat says a move can require a new satellite installation and a new account number. Monthly pricing can also change based on the plan available at the new address. Customers should confirm any new contract requirements before agreeing to the move.
Viasat Voice
Viasat Voice is an optional phone service available to eligible customers. It includes features such as voicemail, call forwarding and call-management tools.
Because it operates over the customer’s Internet connection, phone performance and emergency-calling availability can be affected by Internet or power interruptions. If your review concerns Voice, identify whether the issue involved calling quality, voicemail, number transfer, billing or account management.
CyberProtect and Security Add-Ons
Viasat currently offers CyberProtect, powered by Bitdefender, as an optional security and identity-protection add-on. Viasat says CyberProtect itself can be canceled without a minimum service term, although cancellation timing and self-service options can depend on the customer’s state.
If your review concerns a security add-on, distinguish the add-on charge from the underlying Internet service and identify whether the problem concerns enrollment, billing, cancellation or the security product itself.
Coverage and Availability
Viasat satellite Internet is designed to reach many rural and remote locations where terrestrial broadband choices may be limited. Even so, plan names, speeds, equipment and pricing are address-specific.
For an availability review, identify your city or general area without posting your full street address. This provides useful context while protecting personal information.
My Viasat App and Online Account Access
My Viasat can be used to view plan details, billing, payment history, data usage and network diagnostics. The portal also allows customers to manage certain add-ons and account information.
If your review concerns login or app access, note whether the issue affected the website, mobile app or both and whether password recovery or support resolved it. Do not publish account credentials or verification codes.

What is the current Viasat residential customer service number?
Viasat’s current residential Help Center lists 1-855-463-9333 for residential account management and customer care.
Does Viasat currently require a contract?
It depends on the plan. Current Viasat Unleashed service is advertised with no contracts. Legacy plans and some other service arrangements can still have minimum service terms.
How do I cancel Viasat service?
Contact Viasat Customer Care at 1-855-463-9333. Confirm the cancellation date, any applicable termination fee and the exact leased equipment that must be returned.
How long do I have to return Viasat equipment?
Viasat’s current equipment-return guide says customers have 30 calendar days after disconnection to return required leased equipment.
What Viasat equipment has to be returned?
For typical leased satellite service, Viasat says to return the modem, power cord and TRIA from the dish assembly. The dish and mounting brackets are not returned. Use only the Viasat-provided recovery kit and shipping label.
Can Viasat slow service during congestion?
Yes. Viasat’s current Unleashed policy says customers whose usage trends above typical residential usage can receive reduced priority during periods of congestion, which can result in slower speeds.
Does posting on ZeroStars contact Viasat support?
No. ZeroStars is an independent review website. A published review shares your experience but does not open a support case, cancel service, return equipment, request a refund or change your Viasat account.
Can I review a Viasat issue that was resolved?
Yes. Explain the original problem, what Viasat did and how it was resolved. Reviews describing successful repairs, helpful support, corrected bills or completed credits can be useful alongside unresolved complaints.
