Overview

Starlink reviews and complaints can help other customers understand a Residential, Roam, billing, installation, equipment or customer-support experience. Share what happened, which plan you used and whether the company resolved the issue. Positive, neutral and negative experiences are welcome on ZeroStars’ −5 to +5 rating scale.

Starlink is a satellite Internet service operated as a division of SpaceX. Current U.S. residential offerings include Residential 100 Mbps, Residential 200 Mbps and Residential Max in eligible areas, while Roam plans are designed for mobile or travel use. Plan availability, pricing, equipment and performance vary by address and region.

What to Include in Your Starlink Review

A useful Starlink review explains your own experience in enough detail for another customer to understand it:

  • Plan and location: Residential 100 Mbps, Residential 200 Mbps, Residential Max, Roam or another plan, plus your city or state.
  • What happened: the approximate date, speed issue, obstruction problem, billing charge, installation or setup issue, equipment failure, cancellation or return.
  • Support route: phone, chat, support ticket, Starlink app or account portal.
  • Outcome: what Starlink promised and whether the repair, replacement, refund, cancellation or return was completed.

Choose the rating that reflects your experience. A rating of 0 is valid. Do not publish account credentials, payment details, security codes, full service addresses or unredacted invoices in a public review.

Residential Service Plans

Starlink’s current U.S. Residential lineup includes Residential 100 Mbps, Residential 200 Mbps and Residential Max in eligible areas. Residential 100 Mbps and 200 Mbps plans cap download speeds at those levels, while Residential Max is the highest-priority residential tier and can provide higher available speeds where network conditions allow.

All current Residential plans include unlimited data, but availability varies by address. If a plan does not appear when an address is entered or in the customer’s account, Starlink says it is not currently available for that location.

Internet Speed and Performance Problems

Starlink uses a low-Earth-orbit satellite network, so performance can be affected by congestion, satellite visibility, Wi-Fi conditions, device capability and local obstructions. Starlink’s current Residential Max materials describe typical download performance that can exceed 400 Mbps in some conditions, while lower residential tiers have explicit download caps.

If your review concerns speed, include the plan, time of day, whether the test used Wi-Fi or Ethernet and whether the issue affected one device or several. A single speed test is less useful than a pattern measured over time.

Obstructions, Trees and Line of Sight

Starlink requires a clear view of the sky. Trees, buildings, rooflines and other obstructions can create intermittent dropouts even when the service appears generally connected.

The Starlink app includes a Check for Obstructions tool that scans the sky and helps identify a better dish location. If your review involves interruptions, note whether the app showed obstructions and whether relocating or raising the dish improved service.

Weather and Service Interruptions

Heavy rain, snow buildup, storms, power interruptions and local installation problems can affect Starlink connectivity. Current troubleshooting guidance recommends checking cables, power, dish position and obstructions before assuming a network-wide outage.

For an interruption review, record when the issue began, local weather if relevant, whether the app showed an outage or obstruction warning and what Starlink support said.

Billing and Unexpected Charges

Starlink customers can review invoices and payment history in the Billing section of the Starlink account. Current billing guidance says invoices list the service period, payment due date, subscription items, taxes, credits and any remaining balance.

If a charge is unclear, compare the bank or card transaction with invoices in every Starlink account you may have. Charges can also result from reactivation, hardware replacement when old equipment is not returned, or optional additional priority data on qualifying plans.

Price Changes and Service Terms

Starlink’s current terms allow changes to plans, prices, hardware and service terms with advance notice for materially adverse changes. Pricing can also vary by market, address, capacity and plan.

If your review concerns a price change, include the prior amount, new amount, effective date and the notice Starlink sent. Do not assume another customer’s price applies to your service address.

Setup and Installation

Starlink is designed around plug-and-play self-installation. Current Starlink kits include the satellite terminal, router and cables needed for a standard setup, while optional mounts and accessories are sold separately.

For setup reviews, note the installation location, whether the app’s obstruction check was completed, the mount used, whether cables were seated correctly and how long it took before the service was online.

Equipment, Hardware and Returns

Starlink hardware can be purchased outright or, in some markets and offers, provided as a rental or no-cost rental. Return rules depend on how the kit was obtained.

For purchased kits ordered directly from Starlink, current terms allow an eligible undamaged, untampered and unmodified Starlink Kit and accessories to be returned within 30 days of the payment due date for a full refund. For rented kits, the customer must return the kit in good condition within 30 days after service cancellation or risk being charged the full retail price.

How to Return a Starlink Kit

Starlink’s current return workflow starts in the Starlink account. Customers select the subscription, manage the service plan, cancel the subscription and check the option indicating that they want to return the hardware when the kit is eligible.

Starlink then provides a prepaid return label by email. The return label can also be downloaded from the order summary on desktop. Customers who bought their kit from an authorized retailer generally must handle the return through that retailer instead of Starlink.

Cancellation and Account Closure

Starlink’s current Terms of Service allow customers to cancel service at any time through the Starlink Customer Portal. To avoid being billed for the following month, Starlink says cancellation must be completed before the next invoice statement is generated.

Before canceling, confirm whether the kit was purchased or rented, whether you are within the 30-day hardware-refund period and whether a return is required. Keep the cancellation and return records until the account shows the expected final status.

Refunds and 30-Day Trial

Current Starlink Residential and Roam marketing includes a 30-day trial. The Terms of Service also provide a 30-day return-and-refund window for qualifying hardware purchased directly from Starlink.

Starlink’s terms say refunds are limited to specific circumstances set out in the agreement, including eligible deposits and qualifying kit returns. A customer canceling after the applicable refund window should not assume unused service automatically generates a prorated refund.

Rented or No-Cost Rental Kits

Starlink has expanded rental-style hardware offers in some markets. Current support guidance says rented or no-cost rental kits must be returned in good condition within 30 days after cancellation.

If the kit is not returned or is returned damaged beyond normal wear, Starlink can charge the customer the full retail price. Keep the prepaid return label, shipment receipt and tracking number until the return is closed.

Roam Service

Starlink Roam is intended for RVs, campers, travelers and other users who need service away from a fixed home address. Current Roam plans include limited high-speed-data tiers and an Unlimited option, with Standby Mode available for certain paused-use situations.

Roam has different rules from Residential for mobility, in-motion use, international travel, coastal coverage and data treatment. If your review concerns Roam, identify the exact plan and where the service was being used.

Residential vs. Roam

Residential service is designed for a fixed, land-based location, while Roam is designed for mobility and travel. A Residential plan should not be assumed to have the same portability or in-motion rights as Roam.

If you move or travel frequently, review the current service-plan rules before changing plans or relocating equipment.

Account Transfers and Resale

Starlink places transfer restrictions on recently purchased or activated kits. Current support materials say a kit generally cannot be transferred until at least 120 days after purchase or 90 days after activation, whichever comes first.

If a review concerns buying or selling used Starlink hardware, verify that the kit is eligible for transfer before money changes hands. An ineligible or still-linked kit can create activation problems for the next user.

Support Tickets and Chat

Starlink provides support through the app, account portal, chat and phone. In the app, customers can open Support, then Messages, then Contact Starlink Support. On the website, customers can sign in and create a new ticket through Messages.

If your review concerns support responsiveness, note which channel you used, when the request was created and whether the issue was resolved or escalated.

Starlink App and Online Account Access

The Starlink app can be used for setup, obstruction scanning, network status, router management, speed testing and troubleshooting. The web account handles billing, subscriptions, orders and support tickets.

If your review concerns account access, note whether the issue affected the app, website or both and whether password recovery or support resolved it. Do not publish login credentials or verification codes.

Does Starlink Residential have unlimited data?

Yes. Starlink’s current Residential plans include unlimited data. Performance and priority can still vary by plan, location and network conditions.

How do I cancel Starlink service?

Starlink lets customers cancel through the Starlink Customer Portal. To avoid the next month’s charge, Starlink says cancellation should be completed before the next invoice statement is generated.

How long do I have to return Starlink equipment?

For qualifying purchased kits ordered directly from Starlink, the standard full-refund return window is 30 days. Rented or no-cost rental kits must generally be returned within 30 days after service cancellation.

How do I get a Starlink return label?

Start the eligible return through the Starlink account. Starlink sends a prepaid return label by email, and the label can also be downloaded from the order summary on desktop.

Can trees cause Starlink outages?

Yes. Starlink requires a clear view of the sky, and trees or buildings can cause interruptions. The Starlink app’s Check for Obstructions tool can help identify a better installation location.

Does posting on ZeroStars contact Starlink support?

No. ZeroStars is an independent review website. A published review shares your experience but does not create a Starlink ticket, cancel service, return equipment, request a refund or change your account.

Can I review a Starlink issue that was resolved?

Yes. Explain the original problem, what Starlink did and how it was resolved. Reviews describing successful replacements, helpful support, corrected bills or completed refunds can be useful alongside unresolved complaints.
