Overview

The Hartford reviews and complaints on ZeroStars give customers a place to describe experiences with insurance, claims, billing and service. Share what happened, how the company responded and whether your concern was resolved. You can rate your experience from −5 to +5, including 0.

ZeroStars is an independent consumer review website and is not affiliated with The Hartford or AARP. A review here does not file an insurance claim or submit a complaint to either organization. Use the official support links below when you need help with an account or claim.

About The Hartford and Its AARP Program

The Hartford offers auto, home and business insurance, as well as employee benefits. Its AARP Auto and Home Insurance program is endorsed by AARP. AARP is not the insurer. Identify the insurance company named in your policy documents when discussing a coverage decision or seeking assistance.

Membership eligibility, product availability and policy terms should be checked for your state and situation. An advertised discount or another customer’s experience does not establish your own price or coverage. When writing a review, specify whether it concerns an AARP program policy, another Hartford policy or an employer-provided benefit.

Quotes, Premiums and Renewal Questions

For a quote or renewal complaint, compare the coverage limits, deductibles, policy term and discounts on the documents you received. Compare total premiums as well as monthly installments. If you changed a vehicle, address, driver or coverage selection, ask how that change affected the amount billed.

Keep the original quote, declarations pages and any written explanation. Ask the representative to identify the reason for a difference you cannot reconcile. A useful review states what you expected, what the issued or renewal policy showed and whether the company corrected or explained the discrepancy.

Auto and Home Insurance Claims

The Hartford’s claim center provides separate paths for personal auto, home and renters, employee benefits, workers compensation and commercial claims. Select the product that matches your loss. The site also describes online claim tracking and mobile tools for submitting and following claims.

Keep your claim confirmation, photographs, estimates and correspondence together. If the process seems delayed, ask what information is missing, who is responsible for the next step and when you should follow up. Record the answers so your review can distinguish a missed update from an unresolved coverage question.

If a claim is denied or you dispute the payment amount, request the decision in writing and ask which policy provisions support it. Identify the specific item, damage or expense you believe was overlooked. Explain the company’s response without presenting an unresolved allegation as a proven finding.

Repair Estimates and Property Damage

For vehicle repairs, ask how the estimate was prepared and how newly discovered damage will be reviewed. Clarify which expenses have been approved before authorizing work you expect the insurer to pay. Keep the repair facility’s communications separate from the claim team’s coverage or payment explanations.

For a home loss, retain photographs, contractor estimates and receipts for relevant expenses. Ask the claim representative to explain deductibles, valuation and any documentation still needed. If temporary housing or other additional costs are involved, confirm the applicable coverage and limits. Do not assume that an initial estimate or verbal conversation guarantees payment of every expense.

TrueLane Driving Program

TrueLane is The Hartford’s smartphone-based driving program. The company says the app collects data related to braking, speeding and phone distraction. Its current guidance explains that safer driving can produce savings, while riskier driving can result in a higher premium. Availability and terms vary.

Do not assume that an enrollment discount guarantees the same savings at renewal. If you are reviewing TrueLane, explain whether your concern involves activation, trip recording, the driving score or a renewal price. Save relevant screenshots privately and ask support to explain data you believe is incorrect. Confirm participation and withdrawal terms before making changes rather than assuming deleting the app ends enrollment.

Disability, Leave and Employee Benefits

The Hartford’s employee benefits contact page provides a separate route for disability and leave claims, along with group life and accident benefits. Its employee account tools include claim status, missed work reporting and payment information. Auto and home service numbers are not the appropriate starting point for these matters.

Keep employer-provided plan materials and claim correspondence available when contacting the benefits team. Ask which records are outstanding and how to submit them securely. If you disagree with a decision, request the written explanation and follow the review or appeal instructions provided for your plan. A public review should never include medical records, diagnoses, identification numbers or private employer documents.

Billing, Cancellation and Refunds

For an unexpected balance, compare invoices with payment confirmations and recent policy changes. Ask for an itemized account explanation. In your review, distinguish a disputed charge from a payment-processing problem and state whether the balance was corrected.

When requesting cancellation, confirm the required steps, effective date and any final balance or refund in writing. Ask how a refund will be delivered and what timing applies to your account. Stopping an automatic payment is not confirmation that a policy has been canceled. If you are replacing insurance, confirm the replacement coverage begins when needed.

Escalating an Unresolved Complaint

Start with the agent, service team or claim representative responsible for the issue. Give a brief timeline and state the outcome you are requesting. If an important question remains unanswered, ask for a supervisor or the applicable internal review process. Retain correspondence and document promised follow-up dates.

For an insurance complaint, the NAIC state insurance department directory can help you locate your regulator’s complaint resources. Employer benefit disputes may involve different procedures; follow the instructions in your plan and decision letter. Posting publicly does not replace those processes or extend any stated deadline.

Writing a Useful Hartford Review

Describe your own experience, including the insurance product, state, approximate dates, contact methods and outcome. Explain both helpful service and problems you encountered. Choose a score from −5 to +5, including 0, and explain why. Update your review if the situation changes.

Leave out policy numbers, claim numbers, home addresses and financial details. You can also read experiences with Travelers, Nationwide and Farmers Insurance, or browse Insurance, Warranties & Protection Plans.

Frequently asked questions

The Hartford FAQs

Is AARP the insurer for Hartford auto and home policies?

No. AARP endorses the program but is not the insurer. Check your policy documents for the underwriting company and contact The Hartford about policy service or claims.

Where do I start a Hartford claim?

Use The Hartford’s official claim center and select the appropriate product. Personal insurance, commercial insurance and employee benefits have separate routes.

Can TrueLane increase my premium?

Yes. The Hartford says riskier driving can lead to a higher premium. Check the terms that apply to your policy; participation does not guarantee renewal savings.

Who handles disability and leave questions?

Use the employee benefits directory and the instructions supplied with your employer’s plan or claim correspondence. Keep health information out of a public review.

Can I give The Hartford a zero rating?

Yes. ZeroStars allows scores from −5 to +5, including 0. Explain your score using your own experience and note whether the issue was resolved.
