About Turo
Turo is a car-sharing marketplace where guests book vehicles offered by hosts. This page focuses on U.S. guest experiences. The host handles vehicle access and trip arrangements, while Turo provides platform support and processes issues under its policies. Review the specific booking details and applicable terms for your trip.
Pickup Problems and Host No-Shows
Check the trip’s Details page and host messages for the correct pickup location and access instructions. Turo’s host no-show guidance tells guests who arrive early or on time to allow 30 minutes past the scheduled start and try contacting the host.
If you still cannot reach the host or access the vehicle, report the issue to Turo support. Its guidance provides for penalty-free cancellation and rebooking assistance for a qualifying host no-show, or a full refund if rebooking is unavailable or declined. Ask support to handle the situation under that process rather than treating it as an ordinary change of plans.
Record when you arrived, where you waited, and your attempts to make contact. Keep communications in Turo messaging where possible so the trip record shows what happened.
Vehicle Condition and Roadside Problems
Inspect the vehicle and take clear pre-trip photos. Turo’s unsafe or unsatisfactory vehicle guidance says not to complete check-in if you have safety concerns and to contact the host immediately. Explain the specific issue and seek support before proceeding with a vehicle you believe is unsafe.
For a breakdown or an accident that leaves the vehicle undriveable, notify the host and use Turo’s U.S. guest roadside assistance at 415-965-4525. Coverage and charges depend on the circumstances and applicable terms; availability of assistance does not mean every service is free.
Cancellations and Refunds
Check whether you booked a refundable or non-refundable trip. Turo’s guest cancellation instructions explain different free-cancellation windows and potential fees. Use the cancellation controls in the trip, review the amount shown, and save the confirmation. A message to the host alone should not be treated as confirmation that the booking has been canceled.
For an agreed host reimbursement, Turo’s refund guidance requires the host’s written agreement to a specific amount in Turo messaging before support can process it from the host’s funds. Keep the agreement and distinguish a trip refund from an expense reimbursement or damage dispute.
When following up, identify the trip, the amount requested, and whether support has approved an adjustment. Do not assume a complaint or early return automatically creates a full-refund entitlement.
Extra Charges and Damage Disputes
For a host invoice you disagree with, open the invoice through the trip and use the official invoice-dispute process. Turo lists a 48-hour dispute window from receipt of the invoice, so review notices promptly. Identify the disputed line and provide relevant photos, receipts, or messages.
Damage has its own process. Under Turo’s guest damage-reporting guidance, report mechanical or physical damage and respond to the resolution route selected by the host. A host may seek direct resolution or ask Turo to manage a claim. If you disagree, use the available dispute route rather than ignoring the request.
For an existing Turo-managed claim, reply to the claims associate’s latest email. The guest claims contact page lists claims@turo.com for U.S. claims when you cannot find that correspondence. This is a claims-specific route, not general booking support.
Returning the Vehicle
Follow the trip’s return instructions and document the vehicle’s condition, fuel or charge level, and key handoff. Turo’s checkout guidance calls for an on-time return or an extension requested through the app. Keep checkout photos and messages so you can respond to any later question about the return.
Share Your Turo Experience
Describe the vehicle booking, what happened, how the host and Turo responded, and whether the issue was resolved. Positive, negative, and mixed firsthand experiences are welcome on the −5 to +5 scale, including 0. Keep private addresses, license details, payment information, and reservation identifiers out of your review.
