Overview

Modern hearing aids reviews and complaints cover sound quality, fit, charging, customer support and the conditions attached to the advertised trial. If you have ordered or used these devices, share what happened and whether the seller resolved your concern. ZeroStars welcomes positive, neutral and negative first-hand experiences on the −5 to +5 scale.

This guide covers Modern Hearing at TryModernHearing.com, whose site lists Comfort in-ear and Connect behind-the-ear models. Check the domain on your receipt: similarly named local hearing clinics and other hearing-aid brands have their own products and policies. Editorial information below is separate from reviews submitted to ZeroStars.

What Modern Hearing Reviews and Complaints Describe

Recent BBB complaint records for Modern Hearing LLC show disputes about trial eligibility and device use, alongside company responses:

  • Refund eligibility: A September 14, 2026 complaint described no hearing improvement and offers of $75, then $125. The company responded that the customer’s reported hearing loss exceeded the product’s intended range and characterized its offer as goodwill.
  • Charging and return handling: A September 10 complaint described a short battery runtime and difficulties after returning the devices. The company acknowledged a hardware issue in its September 13 response and said a replacement pair had been processed.
  • Feedback and small controls: A September 8 complaint described feedback and difficulty operating the adjustment button. The record is marked resolved; a September 14 customer reply accepted the resolution after a goodwill refund.

These records contain customer allegations and company explanations, rather than independent product testing. An answered complaint is not necessarily a resolution accepted by the customer.

The Trustpilot profile for the exact seller domain also contains differing accounts. Harley Northway reported a $75 refund offer after repeated emails, with an experience date of June 28, 2026. William Cox described poor sound and discomfort, dated June 24. Jan Hinnenberg said support helped overcome feedback, dated June 11.

Review-source limitation: On the date checked, Trustpilot displayed a notice that it had removed fake reviews for this company. That platform notice does not establish which remaining accounts are authentic. Treat individual reports cautiously; neither third-party reviews nor seller testimonials contribute to the ZeroStars rating above.

The 45-Day Trial and Return Conditions

Modern Hearing’s FAQ describes a 45-day home trial from delivery. Its terms expressly describe the guarantee as conditional, rather than a no-questions-asked refund. They require a genuine trial and engagement with troubleshooting, and allow partial refunds or deductions depending on usage and condition.

Under the refund policy, the return process is:

  1. Email support during the 45-day period and explain the issue.
  2. Obtain authorization and the assigned return-facility address.
  3. Include the original packaging, accessories and order number.
  4. Use tracked shipping and retain proof of delivery. Return postage is the customer’s responsibility.

The policy says unauthorized returns or shipments to an unauthorized address do not qualify. It describes inspection within 5–7 business days after receipt, followed by an eligible refund to the original payment method; bank processing can take longer. Extended warranties and certain accessories are listed as final sale.

The published pages differ in emphasis: the FAQ says restocking fees generally do not apply unless condition is poor, while the terms permit cleaning, restocking and handling charges. Ask support for the exact amount and policy basis before shipping, and save the policy and offer shown when you purchased.

Cancellation Fees and Refund Deductions

Section 9.7 of the terms lists these potential cancellation deductions:

Situation Published potential deduction
Cancellation after dispatch or refused delivery $55: $20 shipping, $20 carrier return charges and $15 reprocessing.
Cancellation after accepting delivery $35: $20 shipping and $15 reprocessing, plus your return-postage cost.

These are published cancellation scenarios, not a guaranteed quote for every return. Request an itemized calculation identifying the hearing aids, accessories, warranty, shipping and any fees. If support offers a partial refund, clarify whether you must return the devices and whether accepting the offer closes the case.

Warranty, Fit and Hearing-Health Claims

The refund policy advertises a one-year manufacturing warranty from arrival, including replacement for manufacturing issues. It excludes everyday wear, water damage and accidental damage. A manufacturing-warranty claim and a trial return should be identified separately when contacting support.

Record the exact model and problem: fit, feedback, speech clarity, charging or a nonworking component. Avoid describing every problem simply as “doesn’t work.” Photographs of the label and charging case can help explain a hardware complaint without exposing personal information.

The FDA’s OTC hearing-aid guidance says OTC devices are intended for adults 18 and older with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss. If they do not provide enough benefit, consult a hearing-health professional. The FDA advises seeing a doctor for warning signs including ear pain, drainage, dizziness, sudden hearing changes or worse hearing in one ear.

Modern Hearing’s homepage uses registration and clearance language. The FDA explains that establishment registration and device listing do not mean approval, clearance or authorization. This guide has not verified a model-specific clearance or approval. Ask for the manufacturer, exact model and applicable documentation rather than treating a registration claim as proof of performance.

Device injuries or malfunctions can be reported through FDA MedWatch. That safety-reporting process is separate from a refund request to the seller.

Care Plan Subscriptions and Recurring Charges

The seller publishes a separate Care Plan Subscription Cancellation Policy. It describes an optional post-purchase plan at $19.99 per month, renewing until canceled, and identifies the statement descriptor as SP Modern Hearing. The page instructs customers to cancel at least 48 hours before renewal through the account portal or subscription email, or request cancellation through support.

Some amounts and timeframes on that page appear in square brackets, so confirm the terms in your enrollment email. Returning hearing aids and canceling a care plan are separate processes. If you enrolled, keep the cancellation confirmation and ask support to identify any charge you do not understand.

Frequently asked questions

Modern Hearing Aids FAQs

How do I contact Modern Hearing about a complaint?

Email support@trymodernhearing.com or call 1-848-257-9733, as listed on the official contact page. Include the model, order number and desired resolution privately, and retain the reply.

Does the 45-day trial guarantee a full refund?

Do not assume every return qualifies for a full refund. The terms include eligibility conditions and potential deductions. Obtain authorization, an address and a written refund calculation before mailing the devices.

Is the one-year warranty the same as the trial period?

No. The published warranty covers manufacturing issues; the 45-day guarantee governs eligible trial returns. Tell support which type of request you are making.

Does FDA registration mean these hearing aids are FDA approved?

No. The FDA distinguishes registration and listing from approval or clearance. Verify claims for the specific manufacturer and model; registration language alone does not establish either.

Will returning the hearing aids cancel a care plan?

Do not assume a product return cancels a recurring plan. Follow the seller’s separate subscription cancellation process if you enrolled, and keep written confirmation.
