Overview
Cash App reviews and complaints can help other consumers understand experiences involving peer-to-peer payments, Cash App Card transactions, bank transfers, direct deposit, account restrictions, scams, fraud claims, disputes, savings, Borrow, investing, bitcoin and customer support. Share what happened, which Cash App feature you used, what steps you took to resolve the issue and whether the outcome was satisfactory. Positive, neutral and negative experiences are welcome on ZeroStars’ −5 to +5 rating scale.
Cash App is a financial services platform operated by Block, Inc., not a bank. Banking and card services can involve partner banks, including Sutton Bank, The Bancorp Bank, N.A. and Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., depending on the product and account. Eligibility, fees, limits, insurance treatment, card terms and lending features vary, so check the agreement and disclosures tied to your specific Cash App account.
What to Include in Your Cash App Review
- Product or feature: peer-to-peer payment, Cash App Card, direct deposit, bank transfer, Savings, Borrow, bitcoin, investing or another Cash App service.
- Issue: unauthorized transaction, scam, card charge, transfer delay, account restriction, failed payment, dispute, fee, direct-deposit issue or customer-service problem.
- Timeline: approximate dates, number of support contacts and how long the matter remained unresolved.
- Support route: in-app chat, phone support, card dispute flow, transaction dispute flow or written notice.
- Resolution: what Cash App or the applicable bank or lender said or did and whether funds, account access or disputed charges were restored.
Do not post your password, Cash PIN, Social Security number, full card number, one-time security codes, bank login credentials, recovery information, bitcoin wallet private keys or unredacted identity documents.
Account Access, Holds and Restrictions
Cash App may restrict, delay or block activity when fraud, security, identity-verification, legal, regulatory or account-risk concerns require additional review. Restrictions can affect sending money, receiving money, using the Cash App Card, transferring funds or accessing other features.
If your account is restricted, document the exact message, date, affected feature and any support case or in-app conversation. If Cash App requests identity or account documentation, keep copies of what you provide and note when it was submitted.
Fraud, Scams and Unauthorized Transactions
Cash App instructs customers to report suspected unauthorized activity as soon as possible through the app or by calling 1-800-969-1940. Its current terms also allow written notice to Block, Inc., Attn: Cash Disputes, 1955 Broadway, Suite 600, MSC 211, Oakland, CA 94612.
Cash App distinguishes an unauthorized transaction from a payment that the customer intentionally sent to the wrong person or sent to a scammer. Payments that you authorize are generally harder to reverse after completion, so report a scam immediately and preserve screenshots, usernames, $Cashtags, transaction IDs and communications.
For qualifying electronic-transfer errors, timing matters. Cash App’s current terms state that users generally need to report an error within 60 days after the first statement showing the problem to preserve certain investigation and provisional-credit rights.
Cash App Card Problems
Cash App Card programs are offered through partner banks. Current Cash App disclosures include prepaid cards issued by Sutton Bank and Visa Debit Flex cards issued by Sutton Bank and The Bancorp Bank, N.A., depending on the account and card program. The card agreement tied to your specific card controls if terms differ.
If your Cash App Card is lost or stolen, report it through the app’s card controls or call 1-800-969-1940. A replacement card can generally be requested in the app.
Card complaints may involve merchant charges, ATM withdrawals, declines, card locks, replacement cards, cash access or card-related fraud. Keep the transaction date, merchant name, amount and any support reference number.
Disputes and Chargebacks
For a Cash App Card transaction, Cash App allows customers to start a dispute in the app by going to Profile > Support > Cash App Card > Dispute a purchase. Customers can also call 1-800-969-1940.
Cash App currently says card transactions should be disputed within 60 days of receiving the monthly statement on which the transaction appears. Cash App generally provides an update within 10 business days and may issue provisional credit for eligible disputes if the investigation cannot be completed within that period. A full investigation can take longer.
If a dispute is denied, Cash App currently allows an appeal within 60 days of the denial when the customer has additional information. Keep receipts, merchant correspondence, cancellation or return records and any evidence submitted with the original dispute.
Transfers and Withdrawals
Cash App allows funds to be transferred from a Cash App balance to an external bank account using Standard or Instant transfers. Standard transfers are generally free and typically arrive within one to three business days.
Instant transfers typically arrive immediately to an eligible linked debit card and carry a variable fee that is shown before confirmation. Current Cash App support materials list a fee range of 0.5% to 2.5%, subject to minimum and maximum charges that can vary.
If a withdrawal does not arrive by the expected date, Cash App provides a transaction reference number in the withdrawal receipt that the receiving bank may use to locate the transfer. Keep the transaction ID, amount, destination and expected arrival date.
Sending and Receiving Payments
Cash App supports peer-to-peer payments using a recipient’s name, $Cashtag, phone number or email. Payments can be funded from an available Cash App balance or supported linked funding source.
Verify the recipient before sending money. Cash App notes that completed peer-to-peer payments are generally difficult to reverse, especially when the sender authorized the payment. If you sent a payment to the wrong recipient or believe you were scammed, contact Cash App promptly.
Account limits depend on identity verification. Cash App currently allows lower limits before identity verification and higher limits after verification using identifying information such as name, date of birth and SSN or ITIN.
Direct Deposit and Cash App Banking Features
Eligible customers can use account and routing numbers provided in Cash App for direct deposit. Cash App says direct deposits, tax refunds, unemployment benefits and other eligible ACH deposits can be sent to a Cash App balance.
Direct-deposit eligibility, routing details and limits are account-specific. If a deposit is missing, keep the payer’s deposit confirmation, the expected settlement date, the amount and the routing/account information that was used.
Cash App also offers banking-style features such as savings and, for eligible accounts, overdraft coverage. Cash App is not itself a bank; partner-bank terms and program eligibility apply.
Savings and FDIC Pass-Through Insurance
Cash App offers a Savings balance for eligible customers. Interest rates and qualification rules can change, and some higher-rate tiers depend on Cash App Green eligibility, qualifying deposits, card spending or other criteria.
Cash App is not an FDIC-insured bank. Under current terms, customers with a Cash App Card or certain Sponsored Account relationships may be eligible for FDIC pass-through insurance on qualifying Cash App Balance and Savings funds held through partner banks, subject to program requirements and the standard aggregate insurance limits.
Current Cash App terms identify Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., Sutton Bank and The Bancorp Bank, N.A. as partner banks that may hold qualifying funds. Customers without the required Cash App Card or Sponsored Account relationship may not have FDIC pass-through insurance on Cash App Balance or Savings funds. Bitcoin and investing holdings are not FDIC insured.
Borrow and Credit Features
Cash App Borrow is available only to eligible customers and is not available in every state. Cash App currently advertises borrowing of up to $500 for eligible users, with loans issued and serviced by Square Financial Services, Inc. Eligibility and loan limits are not guaranteed.
Borrow terms, repayment schedules, fees and interest depend on the individual loan agreement. If your complaint involves a Borrow loan, keep the loan agreement, payment history, due dates and any notices about overdue amounts or automatic repayment from incoming Cash App funds.
Bitcoin and Investing
Cash App offers bitcoin services through Block, Inc. and brokerage services through Cash App Investing LLC, a FINRA/SIPC member and Block subsidiary. Investing and bitcoin are separate from FDIC-insured deposit products and can lose value.
Bitcoin transfers to external wallets are generally irreversible once completed. If your issue involves a bitcoin withdrawal, verify the destination address carefully and keep the transaction hash, amount, withdrawal speed and status information.
Fees and Account Closures
Cash App fees depend on the feature. Current terms list a 3% fee for sending from a credit card, a $2.50 Cash App fee for certain out-of-network ATM withdrawals, and variable fees for Instant transfers. ATM operators, card networks or other institutions may impose additional charges.
If your complaint involves a fee or account closure, identify the transaction or feature, fee description, date and any notice Cash App provided. If an account is closed or restricted, document what happens to remaining balance funds, pending transfers, card transactions, Borrow payments or investments.
Mobile App and Online Support
Cash App’s app is the primary place for payments, card controls, disputes, identity verification and support chat. Cash App states that in-app chat is available 24/7 and phone support at 1-800-969-1940 is available daily from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Eastern.
If a digital-access problem occurs, note whether it affects the app, website or both, the device and app or browser version, the approximate time and any error message. Cash App says representatives will never ask for your password, PIN or full debit-card number.
