About CVS
Editorial information by Eric Strand, founder and publisher of ZeroStars. This guidance is separate from user-submitted customer reviews. Dated figures in this guidance are historical snapshots; the header shows the current published rating. Expand a topic to read more.
Overview
CVS Pharmacy sells retail health, beauty, personal care, household and convenience products in stores and on CVS.com. It also provides pharmacy and other health services through CVS Health businesses. Shoppers can choose shipping, store pickup or eligible same-day delivery; policies vary by channel, item and payment method. ZeroStars invites positive, neutral and negative reviews using the −5 to +5 scale, where 0 is a valid rating.
What to Include in Your Review
Include the CVS location, city and state, purchase date, product or service, and whether you shopped in a store, ordered online for shipping, picked up in store or selected same-day delivery. Note the offer, coupon or ExtraBucks reward involved, the charged price, order status, any substitution or damage, and the response from CVS or a delivery provider. Keep the receipt or order confirmation for support. Do not publish prescription information, medical history, account passwords, full order numbers or payment details in a public review.
Customer Service and Online Orders
CVS lists 1-800-746-7287 (1-800-SHOP-CVS) for retail stores, pharmacy feedback, in-store photo and ExtraCare. For CVS.com accounts, online orders, prescription-management access and online photo questions, it lists 1-888-607-4287 (1-888-607-4CVS). Use the official contact page for the appropriate route and hours. Store-specific prescription questions can be taken to the local pharmacy; a MinuteClinic visit, insurance plan or Caremark benefit may use a different support team. CVS cautions that personal health information should not be sent through ordinary customer-service email.
Returns and Exchanges
Under CVS’s dedicated return policy, most new, unopened items bought at CVS Pharmacy or CVS.com can be returned to a CVS Pharmacy store within 60 days of purchase for exchange or refund, subject to verification and exclusions. Bring the receipt or invoice, original payment card and ID if requested. A card purchase refunded with proof of purchase goes back to the card under the policy. Eligible CVS.com merchandise can also be returned by mail within 60 days, but call 1-888-607-4287 before mailing it for instructions. CVS reserves the right to limit or decline a return that does not pass its verification process. A manufacturer’s warranty is separate from CVS’s return policy.
No-Receipt and Restricted Returns
A no-receipt return may be denied, exchanged for the same item, or refunded as store credit. CVS says the amount may be capped at the lowest advertised price in the preceding 60 days, and valid photo ID can be required. Gift cards, prepaid and phone cards, and at-home COVID-19 test kits generally cannot be returned or exchanged, except where the law requires otherwise. Some health care, home health and personal-care products cannot be returned even unopened for health or safety reasons. Special-order footwear, motorized scooters and lift chairs must go through Customer Care instead of a store. For an online order paid through PayPal, CVS says an in-store refund is store credit; call online Customer Care if you want a refund to the PayPal account. Verify the item-specific terms before visiting.
CVS Brand and Beauty Guarantees
CVS separately offers a money-back guarantee on qualifying private-brand products, including opened or unopened packages with no stated time limit, subject to exclusions and return authorization. Bring the product and receipt or invoice to a store, or call Customer Care about a mail return. The same return-policy page describes a satisfaction guarantee on beauty products, opened or unopened, with proof of purchase and verification. These guarantees should not be assumed to apply to every brand or restricted item.
Store Pickup and Substitutions
CVS store pickup is free with no order minimum at participating stores; the online price applies and can differ from the shelf price. An order may be ready in as little as an hour. Wait for the ready message, then follow the store’s pickup instructions. CVS holds a ready order for three days before cancellation and refund to the original method; a temporary card authorization can remain pending with the bank for up to 14 days. Out-of-stock items are not automatically substituted: customers must opt in and select acceptable backups. A substitute is not charged above the original item’s price. Eligible unwanted items can be brought to the store under the return policy. For pickup help, CVS publishes customercare@cvs.com and 1-800-746-7287.
Same-Day Delivery and Missing Orders
CVS same-day retail delivery is available in eligible areas for a minimum order and a checkout-disclosed fee, with delivery sometimes in as little as three hours. A courier partner handles the doorstep delivery. Eligible prescription delivery has different requirements. Retail item prices may differ from local store prices. If an item is out of stock, CVS says it is removed and refunded, with related coupons or rewards returned according to its delivery help. Substitutions require an opt-in before checkout. For a missing, wrong or damaged order, review tracking, delivery messages and the final receipt, then call CVS Customer Care promptly at 1-888-607-4287; retain photos and packaging. CVS says a courier’s failed delivery results in an order and applicable delivery-fee refund to the original payment method. A bank’s pending authorization can remain for a period after cancellation. Eligible delivered retail items may be returned in store using the emailed barcode.
Order Changes and Cancellation
Check your cart and delivery address before submission. CVS says same-day delivery cancellation is limited once an order is placed; call 1-800-746-7287 as soon as possible, and an order cannot be canceled after the courier collects it. Pickup items are held for three days after the ready notice and then canceled if unclaimed. Shipped-order cancellations and fulfillment depend on the order status, so contact CVS.com Customer Care promptly rather than assuming an order can be changed after submission. A payment authorization is distinct from a completed charge or refund; check the final order history and card statement.
ExtraCare, ExtraBucks and Coupons
ExtraCare is CVS Pharmacy’s rewards program, including eligible ExtraBucks Rewards and coupons. The current terms list 2% back on qualifying purchases, subject to significant exclusions such as prescriptions, gift cards, taxes and select third-party fulfillment. Link the ExtraCare account to CVS.com or the app before checkout to receive eligible online rewards. The coupon policy sets stacking, product and expiration rules; an ExtraCare card may be needed at the register. ExtraBucks are promotional rewards with limited redemption and are different from cash, a card refund or a store-credit return. Keep the coupon, receipt and applicable offer terms if a discount does not appear.
ExtraCare Plus Membership
ExtraCare Plus is an optional paid membership layered on ExtraCare. Current benefits include a monthly $10 promotional reward, a CVS Health brand discount and qualifying delivery benefits, each with restrictions. It renews automatically unless canceled. The delivery FAQ lists $5 per month or $48 per year plus applicable tax and a qualifying $10 retail-order minimum for free same-day delivery after coupons and discounts. CVS says to cancel online or call 1-800-746-7287 no later than three days before renewal; the same FAQ says there is no refund of a recurring monthly or annual fee after processing. Check the current terms, renewal date and eligibility for your address and order.
Gift Cards, Account Safety and Ownership
CVS gift cards are distinct from ExtraBucks and store-credit refunds. Its online help says CVS/pharmacy gift cards are not accepted as payment for a CVS.com purchase, so check where a card can be redeemed before buying it. Be wary of unexpected links requesting your ExtraCare credentials, prescription details or gift-card codes. CVS’s security guidance discusses spoofed pharmacy calls; verify requests through official support numbers. CVS Pharmacy is a CVS Health business; CVS Health also operates other services whose contact routes and terms differ. CVS pharmacies inside Target stores are CVS Pharmacy operations, while Target’s general retail purchases follow Target’s own policies.

Frequently asked questions
CVS FAQs
What is CVS’s return window for ordinary merchandise?
The CVS return policy says most new, unopened eligible items may be returned within 60 days of purchase. Product exclusions and verification apply; check the terms for your item.
Can I return a CVS.com purchase to a CVS store?
Generally yes for eligible merchandise within the published return window. Bring the invoice or receipt and payment card. Call Customer Care first for special-order items or a mail return; prescriptions have separate rules.
What if I don’t have a receipt?
CVS may allow an exchange for the same item or store credit, potentially at the lowest advertised price in the prior 60 days. Returns without proof can be limited or denied, and photo ID or verification may be required.
What happens if I miss my pickup?
CVS holds a ready pickup order for three days, then cancels it and refunds the original payment method. A card authorization may still show as pending for a time under the bank’s rules.
Who handles a late or missing CVS same-day delivery?
Check your CVS.com or app order status, then contact CVS Customer Care at 1-888-607-4287 promptly. If a courier cannot complete delivery, CVS’s delivery page says the order and applicable fee are refunded to the original method.
Are ExtraCare and ExtraCare Plus the same?
No. ExtraCare is the rewards program; ExtraCare Plus is an optional paid membership with additional qualifying benefits and automatic renewal. Read the current terms and exclusions before enrolling.
