Overview

DISH Network reviews and complaints can help other customers understand a satellite TV, billing, Hopper/Joey equipment, installation, channel or customer-service experience. Share what happened, which package or equipment you used and whether DISH resolved the issue. Positive, neutral and negative experiences are welcome on ZeroStars’ −5 to +5 rating scale.

DISH Network remains a current satellite television brand owned by EchoStar Corporation. Current residential offers center on America’s Top programming packages, Hopper-family DVR equipment, DISH Anywhere and optional add-on programming. Internet and phone services promoted alongside DISH are generally provided by partners and can be billed separately.

What to Include in Your DISH Network Review

A useful DISH review explains your own experience in enough detail for another customer to understand it:

  • Package and equipment: America’s Top 120/120+/200/250, DishLATINO, Hopper 3, Hopper Duo, Joey, Wally or another setup.
  • What happened: the approximate date, billing issue, missing channel, receiver failure, installation problem, contract dispute, cancellation or equipment return.
  • Support route: phone, MyDISH, online chat or technician visit.
  • Outcome: what DISH promised and whether the bill correction, replacement, credit, refund, cancellation or return was completed.

Choose the rating that reflects your experience. A rating of 0 is valid. Do not publish account numbers, security codes, payment information, passwords or unredacted bills in a public review.

Current DISH TV Packages

DISH currently markets America’s Top 120, America’s Top 120+, America’s Top 200 and America’s Top 250, along with DishLATINO and add-on packages. Channel counts and included programming can change, and local channels or regional sports availability can vary by location.

If your review concerns a package or missing channel, identify the exact package and market rather than assuming the same lineup applies nationally.

Two-Year Price Guarantee and Commitment

Current new-customer offers require credit qualification, electronic billing with automatic payment and a 2-year commitment. DISH advertises a 2-year TV price guarantee for the qualifying programming package and included equipment under the applicable offer terms.

Taxes, surcharges, add-on programming, DISH Protect and certain transaction or equipment fees are not necessarily included in that price guarantee. After the guarantee ends, then-current everyday pricing can apply.

Early Termination Fees

Current DISH new-customer offers state that canceling before the end of the commitment can trigger an early termination fee of $20 for each month remaining. DISH’s current fee page lists a maximum new-customer early termination charge of $480.

Existing-customer plans, receiver upgrades and special offers can use different commitment lengths or fee structures. Check the promotion agreement tied to your own account before canceling.

Billing and Unexpected Charges

DISH bills can include the programming package, DVR or receiver fees, add-on channels, DISH Protect, taxes, surcharges and transaction fees. Current fee disclosures also list charges for late payments, payment extensions, returned payments, certain shipping options and technician visits.

If a charge is unclear, compare the current bill with the prior statement and the offer you accepted. Ask DISH to identify whether the line item is recurring, promotional, equipment-related, optional or one-time.

Price Changes and Promotional Rates

DISH’s 2-year price guarantee can protect certain qualifying programming-package charges during the commitment, but not every fee or add-on is included. After the guarantee period ends, the then-current market price can apply.

If your review concerns a price increase, include the previous amount, the new amount, the effective date and whether the change involved the base package, equipment, DISH Protect, a premium channel or another fee.

Installation and Technician Visits

Current DISH offers include standard professional installation for qualifying new customers. Installation can involve a satellite dish, Hopper or other receiver equipment, Joey devices and inside wiring.

For an installation review, record the appointment window, whether the technician arrived, where the dish was mounted, any custom-work charges discussed in advance and whether every TV worked before the visit ended.

Hopper 3, Hopper Duo and Joey Equipment

DISH currently supports Hopper 3, Hopper Duo, Hopper with Sling, Wally and several Joey receiver models. The Hopper 3 is DISH’s most capable current DVR and supports whole-home viewing with Joey receivers.

If your complaint concerns equipment, identify the receiver model and whether the issue involves recording, guide data, Wi-Fi, remote pairing, apps, picture quality or a hardware replacement.

DISH Anywhere

DISH Anywhere is included with qualifying DISH service and compatible Hopper equipment. It lets customers stream live and recorded television on supported phones, tablets, computers, Fire TV devices and certain smart TVs.

If your review concerns DISH Anywhere, identify whether the issue involved account login, live streaming, DVR access, device compatibility or network connectivity.

Equipment Returns After Cancellation

DISH requires customers to return applicable leased equipment after cancellation. Current return guidance says return boxes can take up to 15 business days to arrive, and customers who do not receive the box or shipping label should contact DISH.

Current DISH agreements generally require leased equipment to be returned within 30 days after service or the equipment is disconnected. Keep the shipping receipt and tracking information until all returned devices are cleared from the account.

What DISH Equipment Must Be Returned

Required returns can include Hopper receivers, Joey receivers, Wally receivers, smart cards, remotes and certain leased LNBF equipment, depending on the account and promotion agreement.

The exact equipment list is account-specific. Follow the return instructions DISH sends rather than assuming every component in the home must be shipped back.

Unreturned Equipment Fees

DISH’s current fee schedule lists different non-return charges by device. Examples include fees for Hopper 3, Hopper with Sling, Hopper Duo, Hopper Plus, Joey models, Wally, LNBF equipment and smart cards.

Some of the current listed fees are several hundred dollars per device. If a non-return fee appears after equipment was shipped, contact DISH with the tracking number and keep proof of delivery until the account is corrected.

Return Box and Shipping Fees

DISH’s current fee page lists a fee for empty equipment-return boxes when DISH supplies them. Shipping fees can also vary depending on the service and protection plan status.

If your complaint concerns a return fee, compare the charge with the current DISH fee schedule and the agreement tied to your account.

Cancellation and Account Closure

DISH’s customer agreement allows customers to cancel service by providing notice to DISH, including through customer service. For residential account help or cancellation, the current main number is 1-800-333-3474.

Before canceling, confirm the effective disconnect date, any remaining term commitment, early termination fee, final bill, DISH Protect status and all leased equipment that must be returned.

Refunds, Credits and Final Billing

A billing credit, returned-equipment fee reversal and refund to a payment method are different outcomes. If DISH agrees to an adjustment, ask for the amount, where it will appear and the expected timing.

DISH’s current return guidance says that if a non-return fee was already charged and the equipment is later received and processed, a credit is generally issued to the account within seven business days.

Channel Disputes and Programming Changes

Like other television providers, DISH can lose or restore channels because of carriage negotiations, local-market rights or package changes. Regional sports networks and local stations can vary significantly by market.

If your review concerns a missing channel, include the channel, package, market and date so readers can distinguish a temporary dispute from a permanent package change.

DISH Protect

DISH Protect is an optional protection/service plan that can reduce certain technician or shipping charges under current terms. Removing the protection plan shortly after adding it can itself carry a fee under some circumstances.

If your review concerns DISH Protect, separate the protection-plan charge from the underlying satellite TV package and identify whether the dispute involves coverage, cancellation, a technician visit or shipping.

Internet and Phone Services Sold with DISH

Current DISH terms state that Internet and phone services promoted with DISH are provided by partner companies and can require separate qualification, billing and service agreements.

If your complaint involves Internet or phone service, identify the actual provider on the bill or agreement rather than assuming DISH itself supplies that service.

Ownership and Company Status

DISH Network is currently part of EchoStar Corporation. EchoStar identifies DISH Network, Boost Mobile, Sling TV and Hughes Network Systems among its major brands.

DIRECTV announced a proposed acquisition of DISH in 2024, but that transaction did not close. DISH and DIRECTV remain separate consumer brands.

Fraud, Phishing and Consumer Protection

DISH warns that scammers can spoof the company’s caller ID. DISH says it will not call customers and ask for account information such as the account number, security code, receiver number or location ID.

If a suspicious caller claims to be DISH, hang up and call the official number, 1-800-333-3474, rather than using a number supplied by the caller.
