Overview
Subway reviews and complaints often focus on food quality, portion size, incorrect online orders, app problems, refunds, coupons, Sub Club rewards, delivery and customer service. Because Subway restaurants are independently owned and operated by franchisees, the right complaint route usually depends on the specific restaurant and how the order was placed.

Subway Reviews and Complaints
Subway is one of the world’s largest restaurant brands, but each restaurant is independently owned and operated by a franchisee. That structure matters when evaluating complaints because pricing, staffing, food preparation and refund decisions can differ by location.
Positive reviews often mention fresh ingredients, convenient customization and friendly employees. Negative reviews more commonly mention stale bread, small portions, missing ingredients, incorrect online orders, coupon problems, inconsistent pricing and unhelpful service.
Common Subway Complaints
Food Quality and Freshness
Some customers report stale bread, wilted vegetables, dry meat or ingredients that do not seem fresh. Others describe satisfactory or very good meals from well-run locations. Because sandwiches are assembled at each restaurant, the specific location and time of visit are important context.
Small or Inconsistent Portions
Portion size is another recurring topic in customer feedback. Complaints can involve less meat, cheese or vegetables than expected. Portion expectations can be subjective, but photos and the exact sandwich or menu item can help document a complaint.
Incorrect or Missing Ingredients
Online and app orders can arrive with missing toppings, unwanted ingredients or substitutions that were not requested. Check the confirmation before submitting the order and keep screenshots when customization matters.
Pricing and Coupon Complaints
Subway prices vary by restaurant because franchisees operate the locations independently. Coupons and promotions may also have participating-location restrictions, product exclusions or expiration dates. If a coupon does not apply, review the offer terms and selected restaurant before checking out.
Subway App and Online Order Complaints
Subway’s website and app allow customers to order ahead from participating restaurants. Digital-order complaints can involve selecting the wrong restaurant, failed payments, duplicate-looking charges, unavailable ingredients, missing customizations or an order that the restaurant says it did not receive.
Subway’s current order terms state that individual restaurants are responsible for issues relating to the sale of products, while Guest Care handles questions involving the ordering platform and Subway account. Keep the digital receipt and order confirmation when reporting a problem.
Subway Refund Complaints
For food quality, a missing item or an incorrect restaurant order, start with the restaurant that accepted the order. Subway’s own order terms emphasize that restaurants are independently responsible for sales-related issues.
If the restaurant does not resolve the concern, use Subway Guest Care through the official Contact Us page. For unauthorized account activity or a payment that you do not recognize, Subway’s terms also advise contacting the applicable financial institution.
Subway Delivery Complaints
Delivery orders may be placed through Subway or through third-party platforms. Complaints can involve delays, cold food, missing items, wrong drop-off locations or a delivery marked complete before the customer receives it.
If a third-party app processed the transaction, use that platform’s support route for driver, tracking and payment issues. If the restaurant prepared the wrong order, contact the restaurant as well.
Sub Club Rewards Complaints
Subway’s current U.S. loyalty program is called Sub Club. Members currently earn 10 points per $1 spent, and 400 points converts to $2 in Subway Cash for eligible food and beverage purchases.
Subway states that Sub Club is available at participating restaurants and does not apply to third-party delivery, catering or gift-card purchases. Missing points, failed rewards or account problems should be reported through Guest Care.
Subway Trustpilot Reviews
As of September 17, 2026, Subway’s Trustpilot profile displayed a 1.9 out of 5 TrustScore from 2,096 reviews. The displayed distribution included 68% one-star reviews and 17% five-star reviews. Trustpilot stated that Subway had not been inviting reviews, so the sample may not represent the entire customer base.
Recent review themes included food quality, stale bread, missing ingredients, online ordering, coupon problems, order accuracy and staff interactions. These are individual customer reports rather than a representative nationwide survey.
Subway BBB Complaints
The Better Business Bureau maintains a profile for Franchise World Headquarters LLC, the corporate entity associated with Subway. As checked in September 2026, BBB displayed 225 complaints in the previous three years and 57 complaints closed in the previous 12 months.
That corporate profile should not be treated as the complaint record for every Subway restaurant. Individual franchisees may have separate business records or BBB profiles.
How to File a Subway Complaint
- Contact the restaurant first. For food quality, missing ingredients, order accuracy or an immediate refund request, ask for the manager at the restaurant listed on the receipt.
- Keep documentation. Save the receipt, order confirmation, screenshots and photos when relevant.
- Use Subway Guest Care. Submit the complaint through Subway’s official Contact Us and Guest Support system if the restaurant does not resolve it.
- Identify the restaurant. Because locations are franchised, include the restaurant address or store number.
- Contact the delivery provider when appropriate. If a third-party platform handled payment and delivery, also use that company’s support process.

Subway Franchise vs. Corporate Complaints
Subway’s own terms state that restaurants are owned and operated by independent franchisees. Local operators are generally responsible for restaurant staffing, food preparation, local pricing and product-sale issues, while Subway corporate manages the brand, app, digital systems, Sub Club and broader Guest Care.
That is why a restaurant-level complaint may be referred back to the local franchisee even when Guest Care is involved.
