Overview

Tesla reviews and complaints can help other drivers understand a vehicle, delivery, service, warranty, charging, financing or roadside-assistance experience. Share what happened, which Tesla model or service you used and whether the issue was resolved. Positive, neutral and negative experiences are welcome on ZeroStars’ −5 to +5 rating scale.

Tesla sells electric vehicles including Model 3, Model Y, Model S, Model X and Cybertruck, and it handles many ownership tasks through the Tesla app. The editorial information below summarizes selected official support, service, warranty, recall and financing information; it is separate from customer reviews and does not represent a survey of Tesla owners.

What to Include in Your Tesla Review

A useful Tesla review gives enough detail for another driver to understand the experience without exposing personal information:

  • Vehicle: model, model year, configuration and approximate mileage.
  • Order or service location: delivery center, service center, collision center or city and state.
  • What happened: delivery concern, repair issue, software problem, charging issue, warranty decision, financing problem or roadside event.
  • Timeline: approximate dates, number of service visits and how long the vehicle was unavailable.
  • Resolution: what Tesla offered, whether the repair or update worked and whether the issue remains open.

Choose the rating that reflects your own experience. A rating of 0 is valid. Do not post your VIN, reservation number, account credentials, financing account information, home address or unredacted service documents.

Service Appointments, Estimates and Repairs

Tesla says owners can schedule and manage service appointments in the Tesla app. Depending on the issue and location, the available appointment may be at a Service Center, through Mobile Service or at a Collision Center. The app can also display estimates, appointment updates and service history.

Before approving work, review the estimate and ask questions in the app if the diagnosis, price or scope is unclear. Tesla states that customers are notified of changes to an initial estimate and that service will not be performed without approval of updated costs. Save the original estimate and any later revision if your review concerns price or authorization.

Warranty and Battery or Drive Unit Coverage

Tesla’s current New Vehicle Limited Warranty includes several separate types of coverage. The Basic Vehicle Limited Warranty covers the vehicle for 4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. Tesla also provides separate Battery and Drive Unit coverage, Supplemental Restraint System coverage, body-rust coverage and certain emissions-related warranties.

Battery and Drive Unit terms vary by model and configuration, so do not assume that one Tesla model has the same mileage or retention terms as another. For an authoritative answer, use the warranty document supplied with your specific vehicle and compare it with Tesla’s current warranty information.

If you dispute whether a repair is covered, identify the exact concern, mileage, first date reported and service history. Tesla directs warranty and repair-cost questions to the Service team through the Tesla app.

Recalls and Safety Campaigns

Tesla provides a VIN-based recall search and says recall remedies are provided at no charge regardless of vehicle age or mileage. Some Tesla recalls require a physical repair or inspection, while others can be addressed through an over-the-air software update.

Use the Tesla VIN Recall Search to check open recalls for your vehicle. If your review involves a recall, include the campaign, when you learned about it, whether a service appointment was required and whether the remedy was completed. Avoid posting your full VIN publicly.

Roadside Assistance

Tesla Roadside Assistance is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Owners can request roadside help in the Tesla app, and Tesla’s U.S. roadside number is 1-877-798-3752. Tesla identifies flat tires, lockouts and vehicle breakdowns among the situations where roadside support may be used.

Coverage and any costs can depend on the vehicle, warranty status and nature of the incident. When requesting help, document the request time, location, problem, estimated arrival time and towing destination. If the vehicle is being transported, follow Tesla’s current towing guidance for the specific model.

Ordering, Delivery and Trade-Ins

Tesla handles much of the ordering and delivery process through the Tesla app. After placing an order, customers complete pre-delivery tasks such as registration details, payment method, financing information and trade-in information in the app.

Delivery timing can vary by model, location and availability. If your review concerns a changing delivery date or trade-in value, note the dates and figures shown in the app and save screenshots of material changes. Tesla says vehicle orders can be canceled through Vehicle Details → Manage → Request to cancel in the app. Review the terms attached to your specific order for any fee or refund consequences before canceling.

Financing and Leasing

Tesla offers financing and leasing to qualifying customers in eligible states, and buyers can also use third-party financing or pay cash. Availability varies by state and credit approval. Tesla’s current financing information says customers can review delivery, registration and financing details through the Tesla app after ordering.

If your complaint involves financing or leasing, distinguish between Tesla and any third-party bank or lessor named in your contract. Save the credit application status, approved terms, payment schedule and any messages about changes. For Tesla leases, the app can be used to make payments, manage autopay and view payment history.

Software, Charging and App Issues

Tesla vehicles rely heavily on software, the Tesla app and connected features. A useful review should distinguish among a vehicle hardware problem, an app problem, a charging problem and an issue introduced or corrected by a software update.

If an issue begins after a software update, record the software version shown under Controls → Software and the date you first noticed the problem. For charging concerns, note whether the issue occurred at a Tesla Supercharger, a home Wall Connector or another charging network, and whether the vehicle charged normally elsewhere. That detail can help readers understand whether the problem appeared specific to the vehicle, charger or location.
