Overview
U.S. Bank reviews and complaints can help other consumers understand experiences involving checking and savings accounts, debit cards, credit cards, payments, wire transfers, fraud claims, disputes, account restrictions, mortgages and customer service. Share what happened, which U.S. Bank product you used, how you tried to resolve the issue and whether the outcome was satisfactory. Positive, neutral and negative experiences are welcome on ZeroStars’ −5 to +5 rating scale.
U.S. Bank uses different support teams for deposit accounts, credit cards, fraud operations, disputes, mortgages and other products. Phone numbers, hours, fees, limits and procedures can vary by account and service, so use the number on your card, statement or authenticated account when it provides a more specific route.
What to Include in Your U.S. Bank Review
- Product: checking, savings, debit card, credit card, mortgage, wire transfer, online banking or another U.S. Bank service.
- Issue: hold, declined transaction, fraud claim, dispute, fee, transfer delay, payment posting, account closure or digital-access problem.
- Timeline: approximate dates, number of calls or messages and how long the issue remained unresolved.
- Support route: branch, phone, online banking, U.S. Bank Mobile App or written correspondence.
- Resolution: what U.S. Bank said or did and whether funds, access, disputed charges or other benefits were restored.
Do not post full account or card numbers, Social Security numbers, PINs, passwords, one-time passcodes, routing details tied to your personal account or unredacted financial documents.
Account Access and Holds
U.S. Bank may use fraud controls, identity verification or other restrictions when an account or transaction needs additional review. If access is limited, record the exact message, date, affected account, amount and any case or reference number. Ask whether the restriction applies to digital banking, a card, a transfer or the entire account relationship.
For checking and savings accounts, the applicable deposit-account agreement controls funds availability, holds, electronic-transfer procedures and other account terms. Keep deposit receipts, transfer confirmations and written notices if a hold or restriction becomes part of your complaint.
Fraud and Unauthorized Transactions
For debit-card fraud, U.S. Bank directs customers to 1-800-872-2657. For checking or savings fraud, unauthorized ACH or wire activity, check fraud, phishing concerns or identity theft, U.S. Bank lists the Fraud Liaison Center at 1-877-595-6256.
Credit-card fraud has separate operations lines: 1-866-737-6844 for a new fraud claim and 1-800-254-9874 for an existing claim. A separate Cardmember Service Fraud Detection line, 1-866-821-8411, handles fraud blocks and new-account-opening fraud.
Report unauthorized activity promptly. Keep the date you discovered the transaction, whether the card or device remained in your possession, when you contacted U.S. Bank and any case ID or provisional-credit information you receive.
Debit and Credit Card Problems
Card complaints may involve declines, replacement cards, payment posting, account blocks, rewards, fees, credit limits or closures. For personal credit cards, U.S. Bank lists 1-800-285-8585. Debit-card support is available through 24-Hour Banking at 1-800-872-2657.
U.S. Bank allows eligible customers to lock or unlock cards in digital banking and to report lost or stolen cards through online banking, the mobile app or phone support. If a missing card also has unrecognized transactions, make sure a fraud case is opened rather than only ordering a replacement card.
Disputes and Chargebacks
U.S. Bank lets customers start many debit- and credit-card disputes through digital banking or its automated phone system. For debit-card disputes, call 1-800-872-2657; for personal credit cards, call 1-800-285-8585 or the number on the back of the card.
U.S. Bank’s current dispute guidance lists written-dispute addresses of Cardmember Service, P.O. Box 6335, Fargo, ND 58125-6335 for debit cards and Cardmember Service, P.O. Box 6352, Fargo, ND 58125-6352 for credit cards. Include the information required by the current statement or dispute instructions and keep a copy of anything mailed.
Transfers and Wire Transfers
U.S. Bank supports domestic wire transfers through eligible personal or business deposit accounts using online banking, the U.S. Bank Mobile App or a branch. U.S. Bank states that customers generally must have an eligible account and an established banking relationship to send a wire digitally, with additional eligibility criteria possible.
Same-day domestic wires can generally be sent on business days between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Central. Wires submitted after the cutoff, on weekends or holidays are processed on the next business day. U.S. Bank charges a wire-transfer fee and displays its fee before confirmation; intermediary or receiving institutions may also charge fees.
For questions about sending a wire, 24-Hour Banking at 1-800-872-2657 may be able to assist. Same-day wires generally cannot be canceled once submitted, while future-dated wires can be changed or canceled before the applicable cutoff.
Fees and Account Closures
Fees vary by account type, card product and service. Checking and savings accounts may have account-specific monthly maintenance, overdraft, stop-payment, wire or other service fees, while credit cards have separate annual-fee, APR and transaction terms where applicable.
If your complaint involves a fee or closure, identify the exact account, fee description or closure notice, the date it appeared and the explanation U.S. Bank provided. If a closure affects pending deposits, bill payments, transfers or rewards, document any deadlines and instructions you receive.
Mobile App and Online Banking
U.S. Bank digital banking supports balance and transaction review, transfers, card controls, dispute initiation, account alerts and other features depending on the product. If a digital-access problem occurs, note whether it affects the website, mobile app or both, the device and browser or app version, the approximate time and any error code.
Do not share one-time passcodes or authentication credentials with unsolicited callers or message senders. If you believe account information was exposed through phishing or another scam, contact U.S. Bank promptly through an official channel.
Checking and Savings Accounts
General checking and savings support is available at 1-800-872-2657, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Deposit-account terms govern holds, transfers, ATM/debit-card use, checks, fees and electronic-transfer error procedures.
For a missing deposit, unexpected hold or balance discrepancy, retain deposit receipts, statement dates, transfer confirmations and any written notices. Unauthorized ACH transfers, wire transfers and check fraud are routed to the Fraud Liaison Center at 1-877-595-6256.
Mortgages and Other Loans
U.S. Bank maintains separate support for existing mortgage customers at 1-800-365-7772. If your review involves a mortgage or other loan, identify the type of account, payment date, amount, servicing issue and any written notice or escrow information that relates to the complaint.
