Overview
Synchrony reviews and complaints can help consumers understand experiences involving store credit cards, Synchrony Mastercard accounts, CareCredit, promotional financing, fraud claims, billing disputes, payments, account access, high-yield savings, money market accounts, CDs and customer service. Share what happened, which Synchrony product or retail program you used, how you tried to resolve the issue and whether the outcome was satisfactory. Positive, neutral and negative experiences are welcome on ZeroStars’ −5 to +5 rating scale.
Synchrony Bank issues a large number of private-label and co-branded credit cards and also offers FDIC-insured savings products. Many retail card programs use their own toll-free number, while Synchrony maintains separate fraud and deposit-banking support. For the fastest route, use the phone number on the back of your card or on your current billing statement when one is available.
What to Include in Your Synchrony Review
- Product: store card, Synchrony Mastercard, CareCredit, high-yield savings, money market account, CD or another Synchrony product.
- Issue: fraud, billing dispute, payment posting, promotional financing, late fee, account restriction, credit-limit change, savings transfer, wire or digital-access problem.
- Retail program: include the retailer or partner name when the account is a private-label or co-branded card.
- Timeline: approximate dates, support contacts and how long the issue remained unresolved.
- Resolution: what Synchrony or the retail program said or did and whether the charge, account issue or deposit problem was resolved.
Do not post your full card or account number, Social Security number, password, PIN, one-time codes, bank credentials or unredacted statements.
Account Access and Online Servicing
Synchrony cardholders can generally manage accounts through Synchrony’s website, mobile app or a retailer-specific account page. If you are unable to view an account online, Synchrony says you can use the automated phone system, call the customer-service number on the back of the card, or call 1-877-295-2080.
Current Synchrony support information lists store-card telephone access daily from 8 a.m. to midnight Eastern, while Visa and Mastercard telephone access is available 24 hours a day. Retailer-specific hours can differ.
Fraud and Unauthorized Transactions
Synchrony directs credit-card customers who suspect fraud or identity theft to call its Fraud Department immediately at 1-866-834-3205. Customers who already have an open fraud case can call 1-866-412-7866.
Synchrony says its fraud team may send a Fraud Investigation Form after a claim is opened. Returning requested information can be important to the investigation. Keep track of the merchant name, transaction date, amount, whether the transaction was yours and any claim reference number.
For unauthorized activity involving a Synchrony Bank savings account, call 1-866-226-5638 immediately. Deposit-account electronic-transfer protections are governed by the Synchrony Bank Account Agreement.
Credit Card Problems and Retailer-Specific Accounts
Synchrony issues credit products for many retailers, merchants and service providers. That means the account name on your credit report or statement may differ from the retailer name you recognize.
Card complaints may involve declined purchases, account closures, credit-limit changes, late fees, rewards, special financing, payment allocation, merchant disputes or fraud. The best customer-service number is usually the number on the back of the card or on the billing statement.
Synchrony also offers general account lookup tools online so cardholders can locate the correct program-specific servicing page.
Disputes and Billing Errors
Billing disputes and chargebacks are handled under the specific card agreement and the dispute instructions on the billing statement. Synchrony’s retailer support materials identify disputes and chargebacks as card-servicing issues handled by Synchrony Bank.
Keep receipts, proof of return or cancellation, merchant correspondence, shipping records and any prior credit that was promised. Formal billing-error rights may require written notice within a specific time period, so follow the current statement and cardholder agreement.
If the charge is genuinely unauthorized rather than a merchant-service problem, use the fraud route at 1-866-834-3205.
Payments, Late Fees and Promotional Financing
Synchrony card accounts can have standard revolving terms, promotional financing or deferred-interest offers depending on the retailer and purchase. A promotional purchase may require the promotional balance to be paid in full by the end of the promotional period to avoid interest that may otherwise accrue under the agreement.
If your complaint involves a payment, document when and how it was submitted, the amount, confirmation number and when Synchrony posted it. For promotional-financing complaints, keep the original sales receipt or promotional disclosure showing the financing terms.
Minimum payments remain due even when an account includes a promotional balance unless the applicable agreement says otherwise.
CareCredit
CareCredit is a Synchrony financing product used for eligible healthcare, dental, vision, veterinary and other health-and-wellness expenses. Synchrony currently lists 1-866-893-7864 for CareCredit inquiries, daily from 8 a.m. to midnight Eastern.
CareCredit disputes can involve treatment or service charges, refunds, promotional financing and payment allocation. Keep provider invoices, treatment records relevant to the billing issue, refund documentation and the financing disclosure supplied at the time of purchase.
Synchrony Bank Savings Products
Synchrony Bank offers FDIC-insured High Yield Savings Accounts, Money Market Accounts and Certificates of Deposit. Current Synchrony materials state there are no monthly service fees on these deposit accounts and no minimum balance requirement for the core savings products.
Synchrony Bank is a Member FDIC institution. Eligible deposits are insured up to applicable FDIC limits by ownership category. Rates and APYs can change, and CDs can carry early-withdrawal penalties.
Bank customer service is available at 1-866-226-5638. Automated phone service is available 24/7; bankers are currently available Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–10 p.m. Eastern and Saturday–Sunday 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Eastern, with some specialty teams unavailable on weekends.
Transfers, Wires and ATM Access
Synchrony Bank supports electronic transfers between eligible Synchrony deposit accounts and linked external bank accounts. Synchrony currently says it does not charge a fee for ordinary electronic transfers to or from High Yield Savings and Money Market accounts.
Outgoing wires can be requested by calling 1-866-226-5638. Synchrony currently charges $25 for an outgoing wire, although Diamond status in its Perks Rewards program can include three outgoing wires per statement cycle without the fee. Synchrony does not charge a fee for incoming wires.
High Yield Savings and Money Market customers can request an ATM card. Synchrony currently refunds up to $5 per statement cycle in domestic ATM fees charged by other financial institutions, with unlimited domestic ATM fee refunds for qualifying Diamond-status customers.
Deposit Holds and Mobile Check Deposits
Synchrony Bank currently lists a mobile check-deposit limit of $2,000 per account per day. When transferring money electronically from a registered external account into Synchrony Bank, the funds are generally available no later than the third business day after they are credited, although account-specific holds can apply.
If your complaint involves a missing or delayed deposit, retain the check image or transfer confirmation, deposit date, amount and any message showing the expected availability date.
Fees and Account Closures
Synchrony’s card fees vary by retail program and card agreement. Deposit accounts generally do not have monthly service fees, but specific services such as outgoing wires may carry a charge.
If your complaint involves a fee, identify the exact account, fee label, date and the explanation Synchrony provided. If an account is closed, document how pending payments, promotional balances, rewards, deposits or transfers are being handled.
Mobile App and Digital Support
Synchrony offers digital account management through its website, the MySynchrony app and partner-specific pages. Customers can view statements, make payments, update profile information and manage many card accounts online.
If a digital-access problem occurs, note whether it affects the website, mobile app or a retailer-specific page, the device and browser or app version, the approximate time and any error message. Never give passwords or one-time codes to an unsolicited caller.
