Overview

Whirlpool reviews and complaints can help other owners understand how its refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers and cooking appliances perform, and what happens when service is needed. Share a positive, neutral or negative experience with the product, warranty process, repair visit or customer support. Include the appliance type and outcome so readers can understand your rating.

This page focuses on Whirlpool-branded household appliances in the United States. Explore more appliance reviews or compare experiences with LG.

About Whirlpool and Who Handles Your Issue

Whirlpool is a brand of Whirlpool Corporation, which also owns appliance brands including Maytag, KitchenAid and Amana. Shared ownership does not make their warranties or customer-service routes interchangeable. Use the brand and model on your appliance when requesting help.

  • Manufacturer warranty: Contact Whirlpool about a suspected covered product defect and obtain authorization for service.
  • Retailer purchase: The seller handles its own return policy and any delivery or installation it arranged. If you purchased through Lowe’s or Home Depot, identify the store order separately from your Whirlpool warranty case.
  • Whirlpool.com purchase: Whirlpool’s direct-order support and return policy apply to purchases made through that website.
  • Extended protection or independent repair: Check the contract administrator or repair company on your paperwork. A separately purchased plan is not the original manufacturer warranty.
What to Include in a Whirlpool Review

A useful review explains what worked, what did not and how the company responded. You do not need to have a complaint to contribute. On ZeroStars, choose a rating from −5 to +5; 0 is a valid neutral rating.

  • Refrigerators: Describe cooling, ice production, noise, storage and any service outcome.
  • Washers and dryers: Explain cleaning or drying results, cycle behavior, vibration and whether installation or troubleshooting helped.
  • Dishwashers: Include cleaning, drying, leaks, rack usability and repair results.
  • Cooking appliances: Describe temperature control, controls, cooking results and reliability.
  • Customer service: Note response time, clarity, appointment attendance, parts availability and whether the issue was resolved.

Include the model, approximate purchase date, seller, warranty status, number of repair visits and final result. Keep full serial numbers, addresses, phone numbers, receipts and case numbers out of your public review.

Whirlpool Side-by-Side Refrigerator Ice-Maker Complaints

For a Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerator, describe exactly what has stopped working: making ice, releasing ice into the bin, dispensing ice through the door, or dispensing water. These symptoms can have different causes. An ice-maker failure alone does not establish a broken-wire defect.

Start with Whirlpool’s official side-by-side ice-production troubleshooting and the manual for your complete model number. Whirlpool’s checks include the ice-maker setting, recent installation, temperature, water supply and filter condition. Follow the model’s instructions, and use qualified service for diagnosis or wiring work.

Keep a private repair record: Save the model and serial number, proof of purchase, date the symptom started, installation and repair dates, written technician findings, repair authorization, invoices and support messages. In your public review, describe the symptom, number of visits and actual outcome; omit full serial numbers, receipts and private case documents.

Check Whether the Wire-Harness Settlement Applies

Checked October 20, 2026: The court entered a Final Approval Order and Judgment on July 9, 2026 in Costa v. Whirlpool Corp., No. 1:24-cv-00188-MN. The case concerns alleged freezer-door wire failures affecting certain in-door features. Whirlpool denies wrongdoing; settlement approval is not a finding that every refrigerator is defective.

The official settlement FAQ identifies certain Whirlpool-manufactured side-by-side refrigerators made from 2018 through 2021. Both the model and serial number must qualify; a matching brand, model family or ice-maker symptom is not enough. Use the eligibility checker linked from the official settlement website.

  • Past wire-harness issues: The administrator currently lists November 2, 2026 as the deadline for qualifying past-issue claims and required documentation. Check the official instructions for your failure date, repair history and requested benefit.
  • Issues after May 5, 2026: A separate process applies. For an eligible post-notice issue, the official instructions require contacting Whirlpool or the settlement administrator within 90 days after the issue is first experienced, and before undertaking a repair or replacement. Coverage also depends on the refrigerator’s in-service date and other settlement terms.

November 2 is not a general deadline for all refrigerator complaints or warranty requests. Review the official notice and settlement documents and confirm your claim route with the administrator. Filing does not guarantee eligibility, a particular reimbursement or a payment date.

Warranty Coverage and Exclusions

Whirlpool describes a typical one-year limited appliance warranty, but coverage varies by model. Obtain the actual warranty document using your model number. Confirm its start date, covered components, labor coverage and any longer component-specific protection; a longer parts warranty does not automatically include all repair costs.

Limited warranties generally address qualifying defects in materials or workmanship when the appliance has been installed, used and maintained as instructed. Keep your receipt and delivery record, and ask Whirlpool to confirm coverage before authorizing paid work.

Exclusions can include installation corrections, household wiring or plumbing, consumables, misuse and damage caused by unauthorized alterations or service. Whirlpool’s published major-appliance warranty example also excludes food or medicine loss and describes limits on cosmetic-damage coverage. These are examples, not a substitute for your model’s terms. Ask which specific provision applies if a claim is denied.

Read Whirlpool’s warranty overview and retrieve the model-specific document from its manuals page. An official warranty example illustrates why exclusions and reporting deadlines matter.

Authorized Repairs, Parts and Service Plans

Whirlpool links owners to W Service, which offers online scheduling and a network of certified technicians using genuine OEM parts. Have your model, serial number, purchase record and problem description ready. Confirm whether the visit is a manufacturer-warranty claim, a service-plan claim or a paid repair.

Before agreeing to out-of-warranty work, ask about the diagnostic charge, labor, parts, additional visits and the repair company’s own guarantee. For delayed repairs, request the part number, expected availability and next follow-up date. Use the complete model number when ordering parts rather than relying on appearance.

The repair website states that its appliance service plans are provided by Domestic & General entities, which are independent of Whirlpool Corporation. Use your plan’s claim process and terms; retailer protection plans may have a different administrator. Review Whirlpool’s service-plan information before purchasing coverage.

Whirlpool.com Returns, Delivery and Installation

Whirlpool’s direct-sale return policy applies only to Whirlpool.com purchases. As checked below, it permits requests within 15 days after delivery for new, unused major appliances, apart from delivery-team testing, without a return fee. Original delivery, shipping and service fees are not refunded.

For eligible returns requested on days 16–30, the policy lists a 20% restocking fee with a $50 minimum; it lists a different flat fee for Hawaii. After 30 days, it directs owners toward warranty service or repair. Confirm eligibility and authorization with Whirlpool before arranging a return. A used appliance with a defect may require a warranty claim instead.

For direct orders, delivery, installation and haul-away availability depend on product and location. Check the services selected on your order. Basic installation does not include new utility connections or cabinet modifications. Measure access routes and confirm suitable hookups in advance.

Inspect the appliance at delivery and report damage immediately. Whirlpool advises against accepting a damaged product if you want a return or exchange. Its return page separately addresses delivery damage and cosmetic repair requests. For a retailer’s delivery crew or a third-party installer, report the problem to the company that arranged that work as well.

Recalls and Product Service Campaigns

Check the official Whirlpool recall and quality-initiative page using both model and serial number. It includes notices for specific products, including certain cooktops and licensed Whirlpool-branded products; a brand name alone does not establish eligibility.

The same page lists a dishwasher product upgrade for specified models and serial ranges and explicitly distinguishes that initiative from a safety risk. Follow the instructions for the exact notice. Do not assume an ordinary warranty claim, a quality upgrade and a safety recall have the same remedy or eligibility rules.

How to Escalate an Unresolved Whirlpool Issue
  1. Prepare a short timeline with the purchase date, symptoms, appointments, technician findings and previous promises.
  2. Contact Whirlpool through its official support page. Ask for a case reference, a clear next step and a follow-up date.
  3. If the case remains unresolved, request supervisor review and a written explanation of any warranty denial or proposed remedy. This is a request, not a guarantee of replacement or reimbursement.
  4. Send a concise written account through the official contact form or customer-service mailing address. Keep copies of your documents.
  5. For retailer returns, installation damage or service-plan disputes, pursue the responsible seller, installer or administrator separately and identify their role in your review.
Sources and Review Scope

Focused update: October 20, 2026. The side-by-side troubleshooting, model/manual links and wire-harness settlement guidance above were checked against Whirlpool’s official help, the administrator’s current website and the posted July 9 final approval order. Frequently asked questions

Whirlpool FAQs

Does an ice-maker failure mean my refrigerator has the wire-harness issue?

No. Ice production and dispensing can fail for several reasons. Follow Whirlpool’s model-specific troubleshooting and obtain a qualified diagnosis. Settlement eligibility additionally depends on the official model, serial-number and claim requirements.

How do I contact Whirlpool customer service?

Call U.S. support at 1-866-698-2538 or use the chat and contact options on Whirlpool’s official website. Have your appliance’s model and serial number available privately.

Does every Whirlpool appliance have the same warranty?

No. Use the warranty supplied for your specific model to confirm duration, parts, labor, exclusions and the applicable start date.

Can Whirlpool accept a return for an appliance bought at a store?

Whirlpool.com’s return policy covers its own direct purchases. Contact your retailer about store returns; contact Whirlpool separately about a manufacturer-warranty defect.

Where can I register my appliance and find its manual?

Use the registration link on Whirlpool’s official support page and enter the model number in its Manuals & Literature search. Keep your purchase documents as well.

Are Maytag and KitchenAid complaints handled on this page?

This page is for Whirlpool-branded appliances. Related brands should be identified separately so reviews and support guidance stay relevant to the product purchased.

Can I leave a neutral or positive Whirlpool review?

Yes. ZeroStars welcomes positive, neutral and negative firsthand experiences. The scale runs from −5 to +5, including 0 for a neutral experience.
