About Big Lots
Big Lots is a discount retailer selling furniture, home goods, apparel, seasonal products and everyday items. After widespread closures, stores reopened under Variety Wholesalers. Big Lots’ current FAQ says more than 200 locations have reopened, with hours and availability varying by store. This page covers current Big Lots shopping experiences; identify whether your experience concerns a reopened store or an older purchase. ZeroStars accepts positive, neutral and negative reviews on its −5 to +5 scale, including 0.
What to Include in Your Review
Include the store location, purchase date, item and price, receipt status, and any promise about delivery, a return or a protection plan. If your concern arose before the ownership change, say when and where you purchased the item so readers can distinguish it from a transaction at a reopened store. Do not post payment-card details or other private information publicly.
Returns and Refunds at Reopened Stores
Big Lots’ current return guidance says most items may be returned within 30 days with a receipt, with refunds in the original form of payment. A receipt is required for all returns. Furniture must be in original condition and returned within 14 days with a receipt. Mattress sales are final. The company says returns are reviewed case by case and may be declined if the conditions are not met.
Worn, used, mistreated or soiled items are not eligible for return or exchange under the published guidance. Bras, panties, swimsuits, prepaid phone cards and gift cards are listed as nonreturnable. Underwear must be unopened to qualify; opened books, music and videos cannot be refunded but may be exchanged for the same title. Check the receipt and ask the store about any product-specific terms before purchasing.
Furniture Delivery and Product Issues
Many Big Lots stores offer third-party delivery for in-store furniture purchases. Availability and cost vary; the store supplies the delivery provider’s contact information, and the provider schedules delivery. Big Lots directs delivery-related questions or concerns to that provider. Keep the store receipt, delivery provider name, service agreement and photos if an item arrives damaged or incomplete. If the issue concerns the product itself, raise it with the selling store and review any manufacturer or protection-plan terms separately. Big Lots says furniture assembly is not currently offered.
Gift Cards, Promotions and Rewards
Big Lots lists gift cards as nonreturnable. Because the brand changed ownership after closures, confirm any older gift-card balance or previous purchase issue directly with current customer care; the current FAQ does not explain whether every legacy card or obligation is honored. Big Lots says it does not currently have a rewards program. Email and text alerts advertise offers, but an alert subscription is not a points or rewards account. For closeouts and promotions, verify price and availability with the particular store.
Leasing and Protection Plans
Big Lots advertises Progressive Leasing on eligible items. This is a lease-to-own arrangement subject to approval and its separate terms; the company’s current site says total ownership can cost more than the cash price. It also mentions optional product protection plans through Mulberry on select items. A protection plan or manufacturer warranty is separate from Big Lots’ 14- or 30-day return policy. Read the agreement, coverage and payment schedule before signing.
Ownership and Older Purchases
Variety Wholesalers now operates the reopened Big Lots brand and also operates the Roses retail banner. The old chain’s closures and subsequent reopening mean a 2024-era order, reward or gift card may raise different questions from a current in-store transaction. The current site does not spell out a universal policy for all past purchases. Provide the date and documentation when contacting the current customer-care team, and avoid assuming an old web listing or archived return policy remains applicable.

Current Store Shopping and Customer Support
Big Lots says current shopping is in-store only. Its website shows departments and deals, but does not offer online checkout or online inventory checks under the current operation. Selection can vary between stores, especially closeout items. Use the current store locator to find an open location, verify hours and call the store about availability.
The company publishes biglotscustomercare@vwstores.com for customer feedback and questions on its contact page. For a specific purchase, start with the store and your receipt. Big Lots does not publish a general customer-service phone number on that current contact page; old Big Lots phone numbers or product pages found in search results may describe the prior operation.
