About IKEA
IKEA sells ready-to-assemble furniture, kitchens, mattresses, storage and home goods through U.S. stores and IKEA.com. IKEA U.S. retail is operated within Ingka Group’s IKEA franchise business; Inter IKEA Systems B.V. owns the IKEA concept and is the worldwide franchisor. This review page covers an IKEA U.S. store, online order or related service. Rate a first-hand experience from −5 through +5; 0 is available for a mixed or neutral review.
What to Include in Your Review
Say whether you bought in store or online and identify the product, order date, pickup or delivery method, and whether assembly or installation was included. For a missing or damaged item, include when you reported it and what resolution IKEA offered. For a return, describe the condition, proof of purchase, refund or IKEA refund card, and whether pickup was available. Keep full order numbers, addresses, card details and personal information out of a public review.
Customer Service and Online Orders
Use Track & Manage My Order for delivery status, order changes or cancellation options. IKEA U.S. Customer Support is available at 1-888-888-4532, and IKEA publishes chat on its contact page. IKEA says phone support is available daily from 8 a.m. to midnight Eastern time. Keep the receipt, order confirmation and item number handy when seeking help.
Shipping and Furniture Delivery
Small-package shipping and large-item delivery have different eligibility, prices and services. IKEA says shipping and delivery generally require a $35 merchandise subtotal after discounts and before taxes and service fees. Large-item choices may include doorstep or in-home delivery; fees, date ranges and availability depend on the address, order weight, membership and service selected at checkout. An independent delivery provider may send a scheduled time window. Confirm whether your service covers a doorstep, building lobby or room of choice and whether assembly or mattress removal is included.
Inspect the delivery and packaging when possible. If the order is incomplete, first check whether IKEA split it into separate shipments. For an item marked delivered but not found, or damage discovered on arrival, use the order details and contact IKEA promptly with photos and any delivery documents.
Missing Items, Damage and Spare Parts
IKEA’s current U.S. help article asks customers to report a missing or damaged purchase or home delivery within seven days. A store or customer support may help replace a missing item, arrange delivery or issue a refund, depending on the case and stock. For missing hardware, the six-digit spare-part number in the assembly instructions helps IKEA identify the part. A damage or missing-parts claim is distinct from a change-of-mind return; keep the packaging, photographs and assembly instructions until resolved.
Returns: 365 Days Unopened, 180 Days Opened
IKEA generally allows new, unopened products to be returned within 365 days and opened products within 180 days, with proof of purchase, for a refund to the original payment method. IKEA requires a receipt or other accepted purchase record and a valid government-issued photo ID for returns or exchanges. Assembled merchandise may be returned if it still meets the policy and is in new condition; bring all parts, hardware and instructions.
Plants, cut fabric, custom countertops and As-is products are excluded. Items that are modified, dirty, stained or damaged may be refused. Mattresses follow a separate one-time exchange option within 90 days rather than an unrestricted general return. The amount refunded may be affected by promotional items kept from a bundled transaction or applicable delivery and pickup charges.
Where and How to Return an IKEA Purchase
Eligible store or online purchases can generally be taken to the Exchanges & Returns area of a full IKEA store. IKEA does not accept returns at its Planning Studios or Pick Up Point locations. If you cannot bring a large item back, contact customer support about pickup availability in your area. For some smaller store purchases, customer support can arrange a carrier drop-off return. Do not send merchandise to a store without first confirming the approved return method.
Refunds and Proof of Purchase
With a receipt, IKEA generally refunds the original payment method; its U.S. FAQ says refunds typically process within five to seven business days, though the payment provider may take additional time. An IKEA Family account may show purchase history if the member number was used at checkout, which can help locate proof of purchase. A refund card is distinct from a payment-method refund; if you paid cash for a missing home-delivery item, IKEA says the resolution may be issued as a voucher. Ask support how your particular transaction will be credited.
Click & Collect and Order Cancellation
Click & Collect lets shoppers buy eligible items online and pick them up at a designated location. Wait for the ready-for-pickup message, then follow the location’s instructions. IKEA Family members may receive free pickup at IKEA-branded locations; local pickup points can have different fees. An alternate collector generally must be named during checkout. If plans change, use Track & Manage My Order to request cancellation, and contact customer support about rescheduling. Cancellation and delivery-fee refunds depend on the order’s fulfillment stage and terms.
IKEA Family, Price Adjustments and Financing
IKEA Family is free to join and offers member pricing, rewards, purchase history and certain delivery or pickup benefits. A qualifying price drop may be eligible for adjustment within 90 days if the IKEA Family number was used for the original purchase, or within 14 days for a nonmember purchase, with proof of purchase. Store purchases must be handled in store; for online purchases, contact customer service. Promotions can have additional exclusions.
IKEA also offers gift cards, IKEA Visa and IKEA Projekt credit-card options and other payment services. Financing, card servicing and warranties are governed by their specific terms. Product warranties, such as qualifying kitchen-system guarantees, are separate from the store return policy. IKEA’s Buy Back & Resell program at participating stores is a separate trade-in service for eligible used furniture, not a substitute for a return refund.
