LeafFilter Reviews, Complaints and Warranty Problems
LeafFilter is a professionally installed gutter-protection system sold by LeafFilter North, LLC, a Leaf Home company. This page examines LeafFilter reviews and complaints involving pricing, debris buildup, water overflow, installation quality, roof or gutter damage, warranty service and customer support.
Quick Verdict: LeafFilter is an established gutter-protection company with a professionally installed micromesh system and a lifetime transferable manufacturer’s warranty. However, the two reviews currently published on ZeroStars are both rated -5 stars. One reviewer says debris accumulated on top of the screens and still required ladder cleaning, while another alleges that the installation damaged portions of a metal roof and that the follow-up response was inadequate.
LeafFilter Reviews and Complaints
As of July 21, 2026, ZeroStars has two published LeafFilter reviews and an overall rating of -5 stars.
Two reviews are not enough to establish how every LeafFilter installation performs. They do, however, provide two specific firsthand complaint themes that prospective customers should consider:
- Debris accumulating on top of the filter: One reviewer says the gutter interior remained unclogged but that material collected on the screen and still required cleaning from a ladder.
- Alleged installation damage: Another reviewer says portions of a metal roof were bent or damaged during installation and that the proposed follow-up repair did not address every concern.
These are individual customer allegations. ZeroStars has not independently inspected either home or determined whether the conditions were covered by the applicable contract or warranty.
What Is LeafFilter?
LeafFilter is a professionally installed gutter-protection system designed to prevent leaves, pine needles, shingle granules and other debris from entering the interior of a gutter.
The system is installed over new or existing gutters and uses fine stainless-steel mesh supported by a frame and structural hangers. Depending on the project, LeafFilter may also quote:
- Gutter cleaning;
- Gutter realignment;
- Sealing of joints or openings;
- Replacement gutters;
- Downspout work;
- Additional drainage components; or
- Other work needed before the filter is installed.
Confirm every included service in the written contract. Do not assume that repairs discussed verbally are included in the final price.
LeafFilter Pros and Cons
Potential Advantages
- Professional installation: The product is measured and installed by a contractor rather than sold only as a do-it-yourself screen.
- Fine-mesh design: The screen is intended to prevent small debris from entering the gutter interior.
- Existing-gutter installation: The system may be installed over qualifying existing gutters.
- Available gutter work: Replacement, cleaning, sealing or realignment may be included when specified in the contract.
- Lifetime transferable warranty: The manufacturer advertises warranty coverage that can transfer to a future homeowner.
- National service organization: LeafFilter operates through locations across the United States and Canada.
Potential Disadvantages
- Custom pricing: LeafFilter does not publish one fixed national installed price.
- In-home sales process: Homeowners may be asked to make a decision during the estimate appointment.
- Debris can remain on top: Preventing material from entering the gutter does not necessarily mean nothing will ever collect on the exterior surface.
- Water performance depends on the entire system: Roof pitch, roof valleys, gutter size, gutter pitch, downspouts and installation can affect water flow.
- Warranty scope: A lifetime warranty does not necessarily mean every service visit, cleaning or unrelated home repair is free.
- Contract-specific terms: Financing, cancellation, dispute and warranty provisions may differ by transaction or state.
Does LeafFilter Need to Be Cleaned?
LeafFilter is designed to prevent debris from entering and clogging the interior of a gutter. That is not necessarily the same as guaranteeing that the top surface will remain completely free of leaves, pine needles, pollen, seed pods, roof granules or other material.
Debris may:
- Blow or wash off naturally;
- Remain temporarily on the surface;
- Collect near roof valleys;
- Become wet and adhere to the mesh;
- Accumulate beneath overhanging trees;
- Mix with shingle granules or pollen; or
- Reduce water entry until it is removed.
Before purchasing, ask the representative to explain in writing:
- Whether any routine surface cleaning is expected;
- Who performs that cleaning;
- Whether a service fee can apply;
- Whether pine needles and roof granules are treated differently;
- What the warranty defines as a clog;
- What happens when debris remains on top of the mesh; and
- What remedy applies when rainwater flows over the gutter.
Do not climb onto a roof or ladder when it is unsafe. A homeowner who cannot safely inspect or clean the system should hire an appropriately insured professional.
LeafFilter Water Overflow Complaints
Water passing over a gutter guard does not automatically identify one cause. Possible contributing conditions include:
- Debris covering part of the mesh;
- Heavy rain exceeding the system’s capacity;
- A steep roof pitch;
- Large amounts of water concentrating in a roof valley;
- Gutters that are too small for the roof area;
- Incorrect gutter pitch;
- Blocked or undersized downspouts;
- Loose, shifted or improperly installed filter sections;
- Ice or frozen debris;
- Roofing materials extending too far over the gutter; or
- An existing drainage problem that was not corrected during installation.
How to Document Overflow
- Record video from a safe ground-level position while it is raining.
- Identify the exact areas where water passes over the gutter.
- Photograph visible debris after the rain stops.
- Record the approximate rainfall conditions.
- Note whether the downspouts are discharging water.
- Check for water entering the home, fascia, soffit or foundation area.
- Submit a service request promptly.
- Do not remove or modify the system before LeafFilter can inspect it unless emergency action is needed to prevent damage.
LeafFilter Installation Complaints
The second ZeroStars review alleges that installation caused damage to portions of a metal roof. Installation concerns can involve more than the filter itself.
Before work begins, document:
- The condition of the roof edges;
- Existing gutters and downspouts;
- Fascia and soffit areas;
- Roof flashing;
- Landscaping near the work area;
- Exterior siding;
- Driveways and walkways; and
- Any pre-existing damage.
Take dated photographs from several angles. Ask the installer to document any existing roof, fascia or gutter condition before beginning work.
Questions to Ask Before Installation
- Who is the legal contractor listed on the agreement?
- Is the installer an employee or subcontractor?
- What contractor-license number applies in your state?
- Does the project include gutter cleaning and realignment?
- Will any gutters, fascia or roof components be drilled or modified?
- How will the system be installed on a metal, tile or unusually steep roof?
- Who is responsible for accidental property damage?
- What inspection occurs after installation?
- When is final payment due?
- Who should be contacted if damage is discovered?
How Much Does LeafFilter Cost?
LeafFilter pricing is generally based on an in-home estimate rather than a published national price. The cost may depend on:
- Total linear feet of gutter;
- Number of stories;
- Roof height and accessibility;
- Roof pitch and design;
- Number of corners and roof valleys;
- Condition of existing gutters;
- Gutter replacement or repair;
- Downspout work;
- Local labor costs;
- Discounts and promotions; and
- Financing terms.
How to Compare a LeafFilter Quote
Request an itemized proposal showing:
- Total linear footage;
- Price for the filter system;
- Price for new gutters;
- Price for repairs or realignment;
- Downspout work;
- Taxes and permit costs;
- Discounts;
- Financing charges;
- Total contract amount; and
- Any future service or trip charges disclosed in the warranty.
Obtain multiple written estimates that cover the same scope. A lower quote may exclude repairs, replacement gutters or warranty terms included in another proposal.
LeafFilter Sales and Contract Complaints
Home-improvement contracts can be expensive and difficult to compare during an in-home presentation. Do not rely solely on a percentage discount or a monthly payment.
Before signing:
- Read the complete agreement.
- Confirm the total cash price.
- Confirm the work and materials included.
- Check the cancellation deadline.
- Review the warranty document.
- Review financing separately from the installation contract.
- Ask whether the quoted price expires that day.
- Do not sign blank or incomplete documents.
- Keep a complete copy of everything signed.
- Do not permit work to begin before you understand your cancellation rights.
Can You Cancel a LeafFilter Contract?
The Federal Trade Commission’s Cooling-Off Rule may allow a consumer to cancel certain sales made at the consumer’s home within three business days. The rule does not apply to every transaction, and state law may provide different or additional rights.
Check the contract for:
- The notice of cancellation;
- The exact cancellation deadline;
- The address or email for cancellation;
- Whether work has already begun;
- Emergency-service exceptions;
- State-specific notices; and
- Financing cancellation requirements.
Submit a cancellation in writing and keep proof of delivery. Canceling the installation agreement may not automatically cancel a separate financing account, so confirm both in writing.
Review the FTC Cooling-Off Rule.
LeafFilter Financing Complaints
LeafFilter periodically advertises promotional financing for qualified applicants. Financing is generally provided through a third-party financial institution and is separate from the performance of the installation contract.
Before accepting financing, review:
- The lender’s name;
- Total amount financed;
- Annual percentage rate;
- Promotional period;
- Minimum payment;
- Whether interest is deferred;
- What happens when the promotional period ends;
- Late-payment terms;
- Whether work completion triggers funding; and
- How a cancellation, refund or contract dispute affects the account.
Do not evaluate the project only by the advertised monthly payment. Compare the total financed cost with the cash price.
Review current LeafFilter financing disclosures.
What Does the LeafFilter Lifetime Warranty Cover?
LeafFilter’s public warranty summary states that if the system allows the interior of the gutter to clog with debris, causing the gutter to fill with water and overflow, or causes qualifying interior water damage from such an occurrence, the manufacturer will repair the problem or refund the material purchase price for the LeafFilter materials installed on the home.
The warranty is advertised as:
- Valid for the life of the home;
- Transferable to a future homeowner; and
- Included automatically with the purchase.
The public warranty page also tells consumers to obtain the complete warranty details from their representative.
Questions to Ask About the Warranty
- Does the warranty cover debris on top of the mesh?
- Does it include surface cleaning?
- Can a trip or inspection charge apply?
- Is labor included?
- Does it cover existing gutters?
- Does it cover new gutters installed during the same project?
- Does it cover roof, fascia, soffit or landscaping damage?
- What maintenance is required?
- What conditions are excluded?
- How is the warranty transferred to a new homeowner?
- What documentation is required?
- What dispute procedure applies?
Keep the warranty that was provided with your own contract. A website summary may not contain every exclusion, limitation or procedure that applies to the purchase.

LeafFilter Debris-Accumulation Class Action Settlement
A federal court granted final approval in 2023 to a nationwide settlement concerning allegations that debris could accumulate on top of certain LeafFilter systems and require cleaning so water could enter the gutters.
Eligible class members could receive:
- Reimbursement for qualifying debris-removal cleaning;
- Vouchers for future cleanings; or
- Limited reimbursement for qualifying removal costs.
The settlement is closed, and the deadline to submit a claim has passed. It does not provide a current claim process for new customers or new service problems.
The settlement resolved disputed allegations and should not be interpreted as a finding that every LeafFilter system is defective. Current homeowners should use the warranty and complaint procedures applicable to their own contract.
Review the archived LeafFilter settlement information.
Is LeafFilter a Scam?
LeafFilter is an identifiable home-improvement company operated by LeafFilter North, LLC and associated with Leaf Home. It maintains an official website, contractor licenses, service departments and locations across North America.
That does not mean every customer will agree with the price, installation, performance or warranty response. Complaints about sales presentations, debris buildup, overflow, property damage or support should be evaluated using the contract, photographs, service records and inspection findings rather than relying only on the word “scam.”
Is LeafFilter Worth It?
Whether LeafFilter is worth the price depends on the specific home and proposal.
Consider:
- The type and volume of nearby debris;
- Roof pitch and valley locations;
- Existing gutter size and condition;
- Downspout capacity;
- Installation price;
- Expected surface maintenance;
- Ability to safely inspect the system;
- Warranty scope;
- Availability of local service; and
- Cost of alternative gutter guards or periodic professional cleaning.
Request multiple estimates and compare the same scope of work. An inexpensive do-it-yourself screen, a professionally installed micromesh product and a complete gutter-replacement system are not equivalent proposals.
LeafFilter Trustpilot and BBB Reviews
Trustpilot currently displays a large number of LeafFilter reviews and an overall score that is substantially more positive than the current ZeroStars rating. Reviews there include positive reports about sales representatives, installation and product performance, as well as complaints involving price, debris accumulation, service charges, overflow, warranty support and installation quality.
The main Better Business Bureau profile also contains a substantial number of complaints. Those complaints involve a large national customer base and should not be attributed automatically to one particular installer or location.
Trustpilot, BBB and ZeroStars use different review systems, moderation practices and customer samples. Their ratings should not be compared as though they were calculated identically.

Why Rely on ZeroStars?
When 1 Star Is Too Much, ZeroStars gives homeowners a wider way to describe their experience. Our scale runs from -5 to +5 stars, allowing reviewers to report severe problems, neutral outcomes and exceptionally positive service.
ZeroStars separates company claims from customer-submitted reviews. We do not invent broad customer trends when only two reviews are available, and we distinguish debris inside a gutter, debris on top of a filter, alleged installation damage and independently documented legal developments.
