Overview
Metro by T-Mobile reviews and complaints can help other customers understand a prepaid wireless, billing, device, coverage, Home Internet or customer-service experience. Share what happened, which plan or device you used and whether Metro resolved the issue. Positive, neutral and negative experiences are welcome on ZeroStars’ −5 to +5 rating scale.
Metro by T-Mobile is T-Mobile’s prepaid wireless brand. Current offers include unlimited smartphone plans, multi-month plans, connected-device plans and 5G Home Internet in eligible areas. Metro service uses T-Mobile’s nationwide 4G LTE and 5G networks, but pricing, AutoPay discounts, hotspot allowances and network-management rules vary by plan.
What to Include in Your Metro by T-Mobile Review
A useful Metro review explains your own experience in enough detail for another customer to understand it:
- Plan and device: a current unlimited plan, multi-month plan, 5G Home Internet, tablet/watch plan or another Metro service.
- What happened: the approximate date, billing issue, slow or dropped service, activation problem, device return, unlock request, port-out issue, account takeover or Home Internet problem.
- Support route: phone, *611, chat, My Account, myMetro app or store.
- Outcome: what Metro promised and whether the service restoration, credit, unlock, return, refund or account correction was completed.
Choose the rating that reflects your experience. A rating of 0 is valid. Do not publish account PINs, transfer PINs, passwords, one-time verification codes, payment details or unredacted bills in a public review.
Current Metro Phone Plans
Metro currently offers several prepaid unlimited-data plans plus a six-month unlimited option for eligible customers. Current public offers include the $40 Period plan and higher-priced unlimited plans that can include AutoPay discounts, hotspot data and additional benefits.
Current plan pages state that monthly plans do not require yearly contracts and have no early termination fee. Government taxes are included in the advertised monthly plan price, while some in-store device activation or change fees can still apply.
Prepaid Service and No Annual Contract
Metro is a prepaid carrier. Customers pay in advance for service rather than signing a traditional postpaid wireless contract. Current broadband labels for Metro’s phone plans list a $0 early termination fee.
Prepaid service payments and monthly charges are generally nonrefundable. Canceling a line does not automatically create a prorated refund for unused days.
Coverage and Network Performance
Metro runs on T-Mobile’s network. Coverage, 5G availability and performance depend on location, device compatibility, spectrum, congestion and local network capacity.
Metro’s current network-management disclosures state that Metro data can be prioritized after some T-Mobile-branded traffic. Heavy-data users on many Metro plans can also experience reduced priority during congestion after crossing the applicable usage threshold. The exact threshold depends on the plan.
Hotspot and Video Streaming
Hotspot data allowances vary by plan. Current higher-tier plans can include larger monthly hotspot allotments, while some lower-cost plans include little or no hotspot data.
Video streaming quality can also vary by plan. Metro’s current disclosures say some plans optimize video to standard-definition quality unless a plan or feature allows higher-quality streaming.
Billing, Due Dates and AutoPay
Metro customers can make payments through My Account, the myMetro app, Easy Pay, phone payment or retail locations. AutoPay can charge the saved payment method up to five days before the due date under Metro’s current terms.
Metro says customers can cancel a scheduled AutoPay payment up to three business days before the scheduled payment date. Canceling AutoPay does not cancel the underlying service balance that is still due.
AutoPay Discounts
Some current Metro plans advertise a lower monthly price when AutoPay is enabled. The exact discount depends on the plan and offer.
If your review concerns a missing AutoPay discount, identify the plan, whether AutoPay was active before the billing cycle and whether the payment method remained valid.
Returned Payments and Service Problems
Metro’s current policies allow a returned-payment fee up to the amount permitted by law when a payment is rejected or dishonored.
If service is interrupted after a failed payment, confirm whether the payment actually cleared before assuming the issue is a network outage. Billing problems and network problems require different support paths.
Device Returns and Exchanges
Metro currently gives customers a 14-day return window for qualifying devices. For store purchases, the 14 days run from the purchase and activation date. For online orders or eligible upgrade devices shipped to the customer, the window runs from the delivery date.
Returned devices must generally be in like-new condition with the receipt, original packaging and accessories. Store purchases must be returned to the same store, while online purchases are returned by mail using the return instructions included with the order.
5G Home Internet Gateway Returns
Metro’s current return policy applies the same 14-day return window to a T-Mobile 5G Gateway picked up for Metro Home Internet service.
Home Internet equipment, eligibility and service terms are different from phone-service device terms. Keep the return receipt or shipping record until the gateway is fully cleared from the account.
Items and Charges That Are Not Refundable
Metro’s current return policy says prepaid service fees, monthly charges, in-store upgrades, app downloads, add-ons and certain other fees are nonrefundable. Online accessories are also listed as final sale.
Warranty defects are handled through the applicable warranty process rather than Metro’s standard return policy.
Device Unlock Rules
Metro’s current unlock policy requires an eligible device to have been purchased from Metro, not reported lost, stolen or blocked, and to have at least 365 days since its activation date.
Once a device becomes eligible, Metro says it will automatically remotely unlock compatible devices within two business days. Devices that cannot be remotely unlocked receive further instructions. Deployed military customers can qualify for an exception with appropriate deployment documentation.
Phone Promotions and Upgrade Expectations
Metro frequently offers discounted or free phones to qualifying switchers, new lines or customers on specific plans. A promotional phone can still be subject to the 365-day unlock requirement even though the wireless plan itself has no annual contract.
If your review concerns a promotion, include the device, required plan, port-in requirement, activation date and whether the promotion was applied as advertised.
Number Transfers and Port-Outs
Customers moving a Metro number to another carrier should keep the Metro line active until the receiving carrier completes the transfer. Closing the account too early can interfere with the port.
If your review concerns a transfer, record whether the account information, account PIN or transfer information was correct and whether Metro or the receiving carrier identified the reason for the delay.
Account Security and SIM-Swap Fraud
Metro warns customers about account-takeover schemes in which fraudsters try to obtain the account PIN, change SIM information or transfer a phone number to another carrier.
Metro recommends using a unique security PIN and contacting Customer Care at 1-888-863-8768 if you suspect unauthorized account activity. Do not provide verification codes or PINs to unsolicited callers.
Scam Shield
Metro includes T-Mobile Scam Shield features such as Scam ID and access to Scam Block on qualifying devices and plans. Customers can enable Scam Block through the Scam Shield app, My Account, myMetro app or by dialing #662#.
Metro also says spam or unwanted text messages can be forwarded to 7726 for analysis. The company recommends not replying to suspicious spam texts because a response can confirm that the number is active.
5G Home Internet
Metro currently offers prepaid 5G Home Internet in eligible areas using T-Mobile’s cellular network. Eligibility depends on household address and available network capacity.
Current public terms advertise Home Internet at $45 per month with AutoPay after the first month for eligible Metro voice customers, or $50 without AutoPay. The offer currently requires an eligible Metro phone plan that has been active for at least 30 days, and customers purchase a gateway device for a nominal upfront amount under the current promotion.
Home Internet Speed and Availability
Metro’s current Home Internet page lists typical download speeds in a broad range that depends on cellular-network conditions. Performance can change as more customers use the local network.
If your review concerns Home Internet, identify the general location, gateway model, signal conditions and whether the problem occurs at certain times of day. Do not post your full home address publicly.
5-Year Price Guarantee
Some current Metro phone and Home Internet offers advertise a 5-year price guarantee. The guarantee applies only to qualifying plan pricing under the offer terms and does not necessarily freeze add-ons, third-party charges, device payments or other per-use fees.
If your review concerns a price change, identify the exact plan and whether your account was enrolled in a qualifying price-guarantee offer.
myMetro App and Online Account
The myMetro app and My Account portal let customers review plan information, payments, AutoPay, usage, add-ons and account settings.
If your review concerns login or account access, note whether the problem affected the app, website or both and whether a password reset or Customer Care resolved it.
Ownership and Company Status
Metro by T-Mobile is operated by T-Mobile USA, Inc. Metro remains a separate prepaid consumer brand while using T-Mobile’s network and many T-Mobile platform services.
The current Metro website and legal materials are branded as Metro by T-Mobile, so this page uses that name rather than the older MetroPCS branding.
