Overview

USAA reviews and complaints can help other members understand experiences involving checking and savings accounts, debit cards, credit cards, wire transfers, auto loans, mortgages, insurance, fraud claims, transaction disputes, digital banking and customer service. Share what happened, which USAA product you used, how you tried to resolve the issue and whether the outcome was satisfactory. Positive, neutral and negative experiences are welcome on ZeroStars’ −5 to +5 rating scale.

USAA is a financial-services group serving eligible members of the U.S. military, veterans and their families. Banking products are offered by USAA Federal Savings Bank, Member FDIC, while insurance and other products are provided by separate USAA companies. Product terms, eligibility, support channels and dispute procedures vary, so use the route tied to your specific account or policy whenever possible.

What to Include in Your USAA Review
  • Product: checking, savings, debit card, credit card, auto loan, mortgage, wire transfer, auto insurance, homeowners insurance or another USAA service.
  • Issue: fraud claim, card dispute, transfer delay, deposit hold, account restriction, payment posting, loan servicing, insurance claim or digital-access problem.
  • Timeline: approximate dates, support contacts and how long the issue remained unresolved.
  • Support route: phone, secure message, app, website, transaction dispute flow or claims portal.
  • Resolution: what USAA or the applicable affiliated company said or did and whether funds, account access, disputed charges, loan issues or insurance claims were resolved.

Do not post full account or card numbers, Social Security numbers, passwords, PINs, one-time passcodes, routing details tied to your personal account, policy numbers or unredacted financial or insurance documents.

Membership Eligibility and Account Access

USAA membership generally includes active-duty military, National Guard and Reservists, veterans who have honorably served, certain contracted cadets and midshipmen, officer and warrant officer candidates, and eligible spouses and children of USAA members. Eligibility restrictions can change.

If your account access is restricted or you cannot log in, document the exact message, affected product, date and any case number. USAA’s app and website provide account-recovery and security options, while member-service representatives can be reached through the main support line.

Fraud and Unauthorized Transactions

USAA directs members with unauthorized ATM or debit-card transactions to report them online or in the mobile app using “Dispute Transaction,” or call 800-951-4539. Unauthorized credit-card transactions can likewise be disputed digitally or reported at 800-945-6759.

If personal information, passwords or logon credentials may have been exposed, USAA lists 877-762-7256 for identity-theft assistance. USAA also warns members not to trust caller ID alone and states it will not ask members to move money to “protect” funds from fraud.

Keep the date you discovered the activity, transaction amount, whether your card or device remained in your possession, when you contacted USAA and any dispute or provisional-credit information you receive.

Debit and Credit Card Problems

USAA Bank debit cards include temporary-block and replacement tools in digital banking. USAA’s current debit-card information states that members are not liable for unauthorized debit-card transactions they report, subject to the applicable account terms and definition of unauthorized use.

USAA Bank credit cards use separate card agreements and billing-error procedures. Card complaints may involve declines, rewards, replacement cards, fraud blocks, payments, fees or disputes. For general credit-card help, members can use the main USAA line at 800-531-8722, while unauthorized credit-card transactions use 800-945-6759.

Disputes and Billing Errors

USAA allows many card transaction disputes to be started from transaction history on usaa.com or in the USAA Mobile App by choosing “Dispute Transaction.” Deposit-account disputes and Fair Credit Reporting Act disputes use separate procedures.

For debit-card transaction disputes that cannot be completed online, USAA’s current consumer-dispute guidance directs members to 800-531-8722. Credit-card billing-error and consumer-report disputes follow the terms in the current card agreement or statement.

Keep receipts, merchant correspondence, cancellation or return evidence and any USAA case number. Do not assume a merchant dispute, unauthorized transaction and credit-report dispute follow the same deadline or process.

Transfers and Wire Transfers

USAA Bank supports domestic and international wire transfers. Current fees are $20 for an outgoing domestic wire and $45 total for an outgoing international wire. USAA Bank does not charge an incoming wire fee, although another financial institution may.

USAA typically processes outgoing domestic wires received by 4 p.m. Central on business days the same day. Domestic wire transfers generally take one to two business days. International transfers use separate instructions and can involve intermediary institutions and foreign-currency conversion.

USAA gives customers a 30-minute window after authorizing an outgoing wire to cancel it. After that point, USAA can attempt a recall but cannot guarantee the recipient bank will return the funds. Wire questions are handled at 800-531-8722, Monday–Friday 7:30 a.m.–4 p.m. Central.

Checking and Savings Accounts

Checking and savings products are offered by USAA Federal Savings Bank, Member FDIC. Eligible deposits are insured subject to standard FDIC ownership-category limits.

USAA Bank supports mobile deposits, direct deposit, bill pay, ACH transfers and debit-card access. Deposit availability, mobile-deposit eligibility and transaction limits depend on the account and customer history.

Current bank disclosures state that USAA does not charge its own ATM service fee and refunds up to $10 per monthly statement cycle in qualifying non-USAA ATM surcharge or usage fees. A 1% foreign transaction fee may apply to some international ATM withdrawals.

Fees and Account Closures

USAA Bank’s current service-fee schedule lists a $20 outgoing wire fee, an additional $25 international wire service fee, a $29 stop-payment fee, a $10 official-check fee and other transaction-specific charges. Fee schedules can change.

If your complaint involves a fee or closure, identify the exact product, fee description or closure notice, when it appeared and what USAA said. If closure affects pending deposits, transfers, cards, insurance payments or loan autopay, document any deadlines and instructions you receive.

Mobile App and Online Banking

The USAA Mobile App and website support balances, transfers, card controls, deposits, disputes, claims and other account-management functions. If a digital-access problem occurs, note whether it affects the app, website or both, the device and app or browser version, the approximate time and any error message.

USAA warns members not to share passwords, PINs or one-time codes in response to unsolicited calls or messages. If you suspect someone has gained access to your profile, contact USAA through an official number rather than using a number supplied by the caller.

Auto Loans and Other Consumer Loans

USAA Federal Savings Bank offers auto and personal lending products subject to membership, credit approval and product terms. General account-specific loan help can be routed through 800-531-8722.

If your complaint involves payment posting, payoff, title processing, loan disbursement or due-date questions, keep statements, payment confirmations and any payoff or title documentation.

Mortgages and Home Loans

USAA lists 800-531-0341 for new mortgage loans and 800-531-8781 for mortgage applications already in process. Existing mortgage servicing handled by Nationstar uses 855-430-8489.

Mortgage payment addresses, escrow rules, payoff procedures and servicing rights depend on the individual loan and current servicing documents. For a servicing complaint, keep statements, notices, escrow documents and payment confirmations.

Insurance Claims and Policy Service

USAA is also a major auto and property insurer. Members can report and manage auto or property claims through the USAA Claims Center and mobile app, including outside normal policy-service hours. If additional help is needed, call the main USAA line at 800-531-8722.

USAA lists 800-531-8555 for 24/7 roadside assistance. Insurance products are provided by USAA insurance companies and are not FDIC-insured bank deposits.

If your review concerns an insurance claim rather than banking, include the policy type, date of loss, claim number only if safely redacted, key communications, repair or settlement issues and the resolution.
